Poseidon was swept into the guard by Beregond, the retired Water Representative of the Imperial Guard.
Supposedly the little Imperial helped Beregond, but rumor has it that Beregond thought the little guy belonged to the odd couple that has a child similar to his coloration.

Poseidon collects seashells and coral, he has declared them little pieces of home. Late at night he can be heard talking to the Tidelord statue, describing how his life is and how everything is different.

Poseidon will take over for Beregond when the time comes as of now his purpose in the guard is to lift spirits and be a hatchling.

With Beregond moving on to fulfill his duty as a Deity attendant Poseidon takes the "helm" of being the Water Representative. He was the last dragon to say farewell to Beregond before he took on the Final March to the Icewarden.
