@TheElfDruid claim hello again :D dunno if i got Padan's personality right, but i'm just going with it:
Padan
Illumina
Illumina wandered off into the night. Yes, she was a shiny, sparkling bright orange pearlcatcher with equally glorious golden wings, and was sure to catch much attention from bandits. But she was bored, and she wanted a bit of adventure right then. After all, she could always beat up any gangs that dared mess with her. She may look delicate, but she could bring down even the toughest of dragons.
Well, at least that was what she mentally told herself as she sauntered into the brisk twilight. At some point, she spotted a blue and red male pearlcatcher alone, leaning against the wall of a tavern. He was dressed nicely, though Illumina thought that brown fez he wore gave him a slightly comical look. She would have chuckled to herself, but when she saw the melancholic look on his face, the laughter died away. She curiously approached him.
"'Lo," she said, "what're you in for?"
She didn't press him when he stayed silent. She'd expected him to, with the sullen look on his face. Only when she started to leave when he croaked, "What'em I in for?"
She arched an eyebrow. "Well, yeah."
The male pearlcatcher sighed deeply, and Illumina immediately repented. It was a habit of hers, overly curious and not thinking before butting into someone else's business. She really wasn't being mean, just curious and annoying sometimes. "Sorry to bother you," she said, "I'll go now, then."
"Padan," the male pearlcatcher said abruptly. "I'm Padan."
Funny name, she thought. "Illumina," she replied. "Sorry if I'm nosing into your business or somethin', but I hate it when dragons look so sad. Care to share?"
Padan was silent for a moment. "I was just... deep in thought. Nothing personal."
Illumina studied him. Hard. Okay, there was definitely something wrong. However, she decided to let it pass, which annoyed her curiosity. If he wants to share, then he can. If he wants to keep to himself, fine with me.
"I was walking today," Padan started. Illumina listened intently. "Just walking. Doing nothing unusual, when I saw.... I saw a poor family. They were all starving. And I thought: If my life was like that... what would I do? So many helpless beings in suffering, and yet nobody helps. It's just.... unfair."
Illumina remembered her childhood in the streets, and remembered the reason why she'd decided to be positive and lift everyone's spirits. Even when times were down and luck wasn't on her side. That was until Lythagoras accepted her in the clan.
She sympathized with him. "They're gonna be okay," she said confidently. It felt good comforting people. "I used to be like them, but look at me now. They'll find a way out of the situation."
Padan had not looked at her in the eye until then. She saw in his silvery white eyes that he was uncertain, but that he trusted her. "But... but what if... they don't make it?"
"They will. Life is certainly something worth fighting for. And they looked like fighters, didn't they?"
Padan looked unconvinced.
"Besides," she continued, "if they don't, there'll be others to help 'em out. They can't be stuck in the hole forever, can they?"
Finally, she managed to crack a smile on his face. She felt good, and a tingling bubbled up inside of her. Was this really what they called being... in love? If so, then it wasn't that bad. Not really good... but not bad, either.
I guess love isn't too overrated, after all, she thought, I like being someone's hero.
"You're right," Padan said. "They're gonna make it, even if they just barely survive. Cause they're fighters, and I am one, too. I'm gonna look for all the poor families and help them out, even if it's just a little."
Illumina smiled. "That's the spirit! Imma try helping, too. Just to see what becomes."
They were silent for a moment. "Thanks," Padan mumbled happily.
One little word. She felt rather giddy. "Hope to see you around sometime," she responded, "and we'll both be smiling at what better the world's become."
