Sangui's early life was rough because she didn't want to follow in her parents' footsteps. They pushed astronomy on her and she rejected it whole heartedly. She wanted nothing to do with the star and the skies, as pretty as they were. They shunned her and left to serve the Lightweaver, abandoning her at a young age.
She traveled in the areas around Corde and eventually found a jeweler who was willing to take her on as an apprentice. She lived with the lovely lady for a few years and learned the craft incredibly fast. Due to already having experience with gems due to having a previous fascination, the skill came easily to her.
Upon coming back to Corde, she immediately got to work as the clan jeweler. She was commissioned to make the royal crowns, which she is incredibly proud of to this day. She does other jobs here and there, but mostly makes jewelry to sell on the trade ship.
One evening she was jumped, a mugging gone wrong. They thought she had jewelry on her person, but she had nothing and was completely defenseless. She was dragged to the ground and a cold knife pressed against her ear. She screamed as her right ear was cut clean off, the knife now a warm touch on her left ear. Just as the knife started cutting in again, someone yelled. The man was lifted off of her and thrown a good distance away. She heard a crack and assumed the mugger hit a tree. Good, she thought. I hope he broke something.
The man who rescued her was unfamiliar to her, but she could see his devilish beauty. Too handsome for words. She blinked and the pain came rushing back. She cried out again as she gripped her ears with both hands. The man swooped her up, carrying her in the direction that she knew Prince Reuben's doctoring house was.
It wasn't until a while later that she learned the man's name - Gordon. Reuben explained who he was one day while fixing her wraps, saying it loud and clear in her left ear. That was the only way she could hear now, loud talking directly in. If you were more than half a foot away, you were no longer audible to her.
Gordon offered to care for her until she got better and Reuben gave her a pointed look. She knew he was a killer and a hunter now. She knew what he had done. But she also knew that this man had compassion, somewhere deep in him, or else he would have let her bleed or, worse, die that night. She accepted his care and stayed in his apartment's guest room as it was much closer to Reuben's office.
Gordon's entire demeanor changes with her, becoming sweet, caring, and kind. He carefully wrapped her ears each day until they were healed. He was patient and kind in teaching her sign language, which he was teaching himself in order to teach her. When she saw him smile for the first time, laughing as she signed out a joke she had learned long ago, she thought she would go blind as well as being deaf. She giggled at him and it was one of the first sounds she'd made since the incident. She was eternally grateful for his aid and in the few months they were together they fell in love. They got married after dating for about a year. They moved out of the city apartments and into a small house closer to the outskirts of Corde.
She's back to jewelry making now. She very rarely wears the jewelry herself due to the trauma of the attack, but will wear her wedding ring and a bracelet. In a way, losing her ears was a good thing because now she doesn't have to worry about if she forgot to put protection on before starting up the machines.
She's much happier than before now that she isn't living in solitude with only her work as company. She looks forward to when Gordon comes home each early evening and has since learned to not ask where the blood on his shirt is from. She just tells him to wash up before dinner and he grins, pecking her cheek before bustling off to do just that. When they sleep, Sangui is in the protection of his arms because now one of the only fears he has is that someone will break in and she won't hear it and get killed. Highly unlikely with everyone being terrified of him, but he still fears that scenario. They wake up together and often will spend mornings lazing about together if he doesn't have to go anywhere.
Overall, she's just happy now and no longer feels alone. (8 Nov 2016)
