Biography
N A R U M I
What clan Narumi was born to is a mystery to everyone. Some dragons murmur that she has forgotten
it herself. The only thing known about her origin is that she was born in Wind territory, proven to the dragons of Yrwen by her knowing green eyes. She never seemed to fit into the Wind clan anyways. Early in her youth, Narumi renounced her heritage and instead adopted the Viridian Labyrinth as her true home, where "her soul resides". To most dragons, her reasons are obvious: Narumi never really identified with core desire of Wind dragons to travel, to live a nomadic life, leaving behind everything
and everyone one knows to pursue the great unknown every few months.
Instead, the pearlcatcher had always enjoyed cultivating plants of all shapes and sizes.
When, as customary for wind dragons, Narumi (albeit reluctantly) left her home to see the world, she didn't travel long before getting stuck in the Viridian Labyrinth. It seemed as though the forest's powerful life force had pulled her in its direction almost immediately. The luscious greens and flourishing wildlife there entranced her like nothing had ever done before.
Narumi spent months on end in the Shrieking Wilds, living side-by-side with a family of Woodnymphs, learning their secret crafts and most gentle interactions with nature. The pearlcatcher's world view changed entirely. During those months, her pearl grew like never before. It is no mystery to the other dragons of Yrwen why the Spririt of Nature decided to join Narumi.
Eventually, Narumi had quenched her thirst for the wild nature enough to return home, though she never looked for her old clan again. Now and ever a dragon of two flights, the pearlcatcher instead founded her own clan, building new life in the Windswept Plateau, much like nature dragons do everywhere.
She is always seen with some type of plant or root, a reminder of her burning passion for the unbridled life and growth she has come to love.
When Narumi returned to the Windswept Plateau, a little homesick, she wanted to
join a clan and open a little store selling herbs and advice, and perhaps even meet a partner.
But after weeks and months of searching, she finally had to accept the inevitable: There was no clan
for dragons like her, who didn't belong in one place only, bound to a single clan or family.
Of course it seemed possible to Narumi for other dragons to embrace their ancestry and heritage, continuing their family's legacy - But in her mind, descent is not the only thing that makes a dragon who they are. Choices in life are just as, if not more, important to her. The only path left for Narumi was to create a clan herself - so she did.
The ability to invent one's own destiny became an idea at the very heart of Yrwen.
Here, dragons of all backgrounds are welcome, no matter if they value their birthplace most or chose their own flight
(like its founder did.)
Yrwen is a nomadic clan. The dragons move all around the Windswept Plateau, visiting here and there,
welcoming visitors, passing travellers, and permanent additions to the small clan.
Sometimes, Yrwen passes into neighbouring terrains and makes camp in the Ashfall Waste or on the shore of the Sea of Thousand Currents for a change of scenery or a collective visit to family. But the clan never stays long and can be seen in the middle of Wind territory only a few days later.
Peaceful dragons are predominant in Yrwen.
Warrior or mercenaries sometimes visit, but pass by quickly. The atmosphere between
the many tents and makeshift burrows cools down their temper and bloodlust a little too fast for their liking.
Retired warriors, however, come to appreciate the mood and might settle down.
The dragons of Yrwen are collectors, travellers, adventurers, healers, and most importantly storytellers. Whenever a dragon comes home after a long journey, they pull out a small trinket or two from their many bags and pouches and begin speaking of their adventures.
There is no specific hunting team: Dragons who prefer meat over insects and plants (a minority) hunt for themselves or in groups of shifting composition, then share their kill at the end of the day.
Like all clans, the dragons of Yrwen are polytheistic: They believe in the existence
of an entire pantheon of gods. However, this belief is in no way enforced and only
a few dragons actively practice a kind of worship. They are the representatives of the deities.
Passing travellers sometimes tell tales of strange phenomenons, miracles and even outright meetings with the reigning deities, and although the dragons of Yrwen believe their tales,
none of them have ever seen a god with their own eyes.
After all, it is said they only appear to dragons especially loyal to their innate flight - a concept
Yrwen isn't particularly fond of.
