War to Home

War. That’s what he was running from. War in his homeland. Zaharus fled with a bag full of books and assorted papers, wings tirelessly driving him on to new lands he did not know. The air was cold so high in the sky, not even birds dared to fly where he was. He thought this was the best place to go, surely they wouldn’t look for him here?

He flew for so long, and so, so far. He was so exhausted, all he wanted to do was sleep. Without realising he soared lower and lower to the ground, until eventually he had to land or faceplant the rough earth. How long he slept then he did not know. It could have been minutes or hours, even days. All he knew was that it was light when he awoke and there was a Skydancer nearby, watching him warily.

‘Hello,’ he greeted sleepily.

‘Hi,’ she replied.

It was a moment before reality and memory swept dreamland away, but it was such a sweet moment. He sat bolt upright and stared around him, expecting to see dragons in soldiers uniforms honing in. The plains, however, were empty of life save for him and the new dragon.

The Skydancer introduced herself as Moranna, a fugitive of the same war as Zarahus. It turned out she had stolen books away from the fighting, too, saving the precious words from the claws and fire.

Then they flew. On and on, tiredly flapping to keep aloft. They were in the air for hours on end, only landing for naps and to rest their sore wings. They passed over trees, meadows, sand dunes, mud plains and indescribable landscapes. If their minds had been clear the beauty of it would have taken their breath away. After so long they spotted a relatively large house, one that seemed excessively grand compared to the caves they had sometimes slept in. They circled it once then landed at the front door, cautiously giving it a knock. They needed food and shelter, no matter how much of a risk there was.

The door creaked open of its own accord. They gave each other a look before slinking inside, ears straining for any kind of sound. It was as silent as deafness, with the feeling of being left in a hurry so thick in the air that it was eerie. There were pedestals lining the walls, each one holding some kind of vase or ancient relic. They all looked beautiful and expensive.

Zaharus whacked something with his tail. He turned quickly and watched in horror as an object he couldn’t describe flew through the air, seemingly in slow motion. Quick thinking Moranna dived to catch it, but only succeeded in batting it away. It smashed on the hard floor with the sound of something extremely valuable breaking and they both winced. It was time to run.

And run they did. Running and gliding in turns, for as long as they could. Eventually, after several hours, they collapsed in exhaustion and fell asleep. They only vaguely heard formal, gruff voices and a quick scuffle, just as if they were in a shared dream. Their minds knew they should run, fly, do something, but their bodies seemed to be elsewhere in time and space.

Later on, they awoke enough to see a Banescale watching them, guarding them. He took them in and found them a clan, a job and safety. A home away from their homeland and the war.

>> He found moranna while fleeing from the war, both ended in a house, broke a valuable relic/thing. they tried to fled, but Soldiers of khelgaro found them with books and other papers. Savorda showed up and saved both of them. But true to be told, they weren't even from that city, they were just passing by and what a bad luck!

>> To this day they started to live on the clan, but no one knows that they broke the relic and they are always afraid if someone is going to find out. It ends no one knows and don't care. What a mad comical headcanon they have.

>> Zaharus is always well dressed, but boy he's clumsy!

>> love moranna, much in love with her, but she avoids this, she like "I only met you yesterday wat???"

>> Always doing some **** with errands requested by savorda and nivalder, and moranna is always saving his *** from these.

>> Does the best coffee in the entire clan. Pure lucky or did he learnt from someone? He does not tell!

>> Good at math like moranna, but bad at hiding stuff hahaha

>> Zaharus: Moranna let's eat something good... using the boss money!
Moranna: No, put that back! I won't colaborate with this!
Morana ends accepting and has to deal with the math later to cover this hahaha.

>> He's a good boy! Only goo intentions

>>To who was runing away from war, guess they have good life now

Late Night

xxxMoranna tapped her ink pen on the parchment, hoping that her restless hand might put thoughts into words that she could not. Sighing, she blew out the lantern at her writing desk. It was difficult to conceal her love of writing from the rest of the clan, but she couldn’t bear to share her work with them. Just the thought of someone else reading her writings made her cheeks grow warm. Though she enjoyed writing, she was not confident enough in her abilities to reveal her stories to others.

xxxIn the dark, she took another deep breath. Writer’s block had settled in, and she would have to call it a night. Behind her, something stirred. Moranna turned her head, expecting to see a rat fumbling through her books again. Instead, she distinguished the outline of an Imperial’s face - undoubtedly her fellow refugee, Zaharus. Realizing that he had been discovered, Zaharus piped up.

xxx— Whatcha writing? — Despite her best efforts to hide her hobby from him, Zaharus had a knack for entering her home unannounced. He often caught her in the act of writing a story, and occasionally he interrupted her thoughts.

xxx— So nice of you to join me tonight, — she said with more than a hint of sarcasm in her voice, — but as always, I have no intentions of sharing.

xxxZaharus let out a hearty sigh of discontentment.

xxx— You’re no fun.

xxx— And what exactly brings you here so late at night? — she asked.

xxxZaharus glanced at the floor. There was very little light in the room, but Moranna thought she could make out a faint red blush on his cheeks.

xxx— I thought you might like to see the stars with me tonight? —he asked. — After all, there’s supposed to be a meteor shower! I saw you reading a book about the cosmos just last week, so I figured it might pique your interest!

xxxMoranna shook her head and chuckled. He was sweet, there was no denying it, but she hadn’t allowed herself to return his feelings just yet. Even as time passed in their new home, it felt as though it had just been yesterday when they’d toppled over the relic and run for their lives. She admittedly required quite a long time of knowing someone before she could return any romantic feelings for them.

xxx— Well that’s thoughtful! — she exclaimed. She had no reason not to join him this evening, especially because she knew that there was no way she’d get any writing done. — But if you could make a habit of knocking before letting yourself in, it would be greatly appreciated.

xxxMoranna stood from her desk, ready to accompany Zaharus to a high point where the meteors would be most visible. He seemed enthused to be joined. After rustling in his bag for a bit, he pulled out a few golden coins.

xxx— Ta-da! — he exclaimed. — Just enough to buy some good snacks for the show.

xxxMoranna’s eyes widened.

xxx— Please don’t tell me those are from who I think they’re from.

xxx— Straight from the boss’s pockets! — he laughed. — How did you know?

xxxMoranna had protested against Zaharus’s sticky fingers countless times, but to no avail. She rolled her eyes.

xxx— Alright, fine. But only because the damage is already done.
