Mephistopheles' origin can be traced all the way back to the First Age as the deities still shaped land. He had been granted monstrous magical power to help Lightweaver claim territory. He was once thought of the Light Deity's right hand follower and would appear when summoned. This was until the Shade tainted his mind and caused him to turn on his master. Upon his betrayal, he was sentenced to death and his body destroyed.
Unfortunately, death for Mephistopheles is not permanent as his magical essence revives every few hundred years. His body has taken the form of several different species of dragons, but he prefers to maintain an Imperial body. As his powers matures in a body, it is strained, causing fractures in the scales and eventually rends flesh from bone. He is constantly on the look out for fallen Imperial bodies in the hopes of reviving as an Emperor. Only then will he feel like he can challenge Lightweaver again.
