Biography
Awakened: Hippocampus; Cryptic Cameo; Brilliant Gryphlet
Petaybeeth inherited all Masunth's notes and papers when the other Tundra lit out - something about goats? - without much notice. He knows Masunth did not meet with foul play, but no-one has asked him, so he's never mentioned it. He's too busy trying to make sense of these scribbles ...
He's discovered he is a member of the Windchanter subspecies, heretofore unknown at WindSky. There may be others.... Further research is required!
Petaybeeth's research turned up others like him, and he formed them into an association, meeting regularly to practice their burgeoning skills. This proved fortunate for Sornieth! When a mysterious new illness struck the Weyr, and dragons were falling left and right, they were isolated from the others enough to remain strong, and able to raise and maintain a great Keep Away spell, to contain the spread of the sudden affliction. Only one of their number succumbed, and by then their youngest member was up to taking his place.
Then they began to get reports from dragons trapped outside when the spell went up, attending the Mistral Jamboree, or delivering packages, or hunting farther afield ... They banded together for security, and some of them too fell victim. When they tried to secure aid from nearby clans, they learned the illness seemed to have gotten hold of them too, not so severely, but enough that they didn't want any strangers coming near. It seemed the Fire born dragons were most resistant, shrugging off the burning fever that was a hallmark of the disease, and they nursed their companions as best they could.
Another Windchanter succumbed. Petaybeeth could feel the fear creeping into their song. Their spell wouldn't stand much longer as their misapprehension infiltrated, and at this rate, the Windchanters might not either. He begged Frinth to intervene, to let them rest, before other lives were lost to no avail. Since food had also begun to run scarce, Windrith did not need much convincing to let them drop their protection. Gwentoth's last scry suggested the worst danger was past. Now they had to try to return to some semblance of normal.
It was fortunate indeed that some of the others without had has the foresight to collect supplies ahead of time for their eventual rebuilding. Surely they could recover now!
