Biography

XIA

5KGfdy1.png

The first thing that Moonfeather and Nightstar noticed about Xia was that she was the prettiest Tundra they’d ever seen. The first thing that Xia noticed about Moonfeather and Nightstar was that they were two incredibly unfamiliar dragons. Using every bit of her social prowess, she scrambled behind a rock. It was obvious that Xia hadn’t liked the fact that two unknown dragons had attempted to approach her, but she started thinking behind that rock. Where was she?

“Are you playing hide and seek?” a soft voice cooed to her, and after peeking out from behind the rock she determined it was the Pearlcatcher. That caught the attention of the hatchling, she liked games. She really liked games.

But she wasn’t playing a game, not at the moment. “No,” she responded quietly and Moonfeather nodded.

“Where are your parents?” Xia went to answer that, figuring the answer would come to her immediately. That kind of information came naturally, right? It didn’t. Xia closed her mouth and scrunched her face, trying to figure it out. Where are they? “How did you get here?” How did she get here? After a minute of thought, she shook her head. Normally answers easily came to mind, but she was blanking.

“I don’t know.”

That’s how Xia was assembled into Moonfeather and Nightstar’s clan. It seemed that the two founders understood more about her than she did about herself, and that didn’t seem right. In the end it was too stressful to try and ask them about it; she’d end up hiding her face in her wings whenever she’d try. By the time she entered adolescence, they offered her one piece of information.

“You were a princess,” Nightstar told her, shrugging, “don’t know much past that.” It seemed they were telling the truth, the little princess was good at reading people like that. Xia took that with grace, a small nod and flourish of the wings. One thing Xia was always able to pride herself in is the way in which she held herself, an upturned chin with a soft and welcoming smile set on her face.

Nonetheless she kept learning, devouring scripts faster than they could be supplied for her. She understood more than many dragons her age, and she had manners to match. She kept her posture straight and face buried for most of her teenage years. Sadly, this managed to take the meager social skills she had and worsen them further. For those that could get passed the face-hiding and mumbling would be met with what seemed like an entirely different dragon. Instead of a hidden face, it would be a hidden smirk and a well-placed comment about something that would get a reaction out of the dragon in question.

She enjoyed talking back under her breath even more, a request from Moonfeather to “please clean out your den” would be met with “have you looked at your own den, that’s what needs a cleaning.” Nightstar was quick to say that she would grow out of the continuous sassiness, but that has not proven to be a fruitful prophecy.

Even with mysterious beginnings, Xia grew into her own. She may not know where she came from, and she may never know but she flourished in the environment she was gifted. Even now, Xia could often be seen playing with the hatchlings as well as reading to them just an hour later. She held herself high and happy. Even if she didn’t know where she really came from, she knew who she was. That was enough.
