Nilam was born into a sizable clan in the Viridian Labyrinth, where he learned his gentle and caring nature at an early age. He thrived here, and was taught everything there was to know about flowers and plants and herbs of all kind. And for a long time, he was happy. However, that did not last forever. Even from a young age, something in the back of Nilam's mind constantly pulled him away from his homeland. After he was old enough and capable enough, Nilam gathered his things, sad goodbye to his clan, and set off. To where? He wasn't sure. He simply followed the force that had been pulling him away since his hatchling days.

Nilam soon found himself flying over the Ashfall Waste, a place he had heard of, but had never visited due to the danger it posed him. And with good reason. Shortly upon his arrival to the Fire Flight homeland, Nilam collapsed from heat exhaustion. He blacked out, and plummeted to the earth below him. When he came to, he found himself near the Sea of a Thousand Currents, surrounded by dragons he had never met before. Their leader introduced herself as Amaia, and explained that Stav had sensed his magic and they raced to his aid, before bringing him to the shore to cool off. Nilam was deeply grateful to the group, and expressed said gratitude countless times. He knew in his heart that this was why he had been pulled toward the Ashfall Waste, and asked to join the group on their journey. Despite Amaia's hesitance to let a stranger join them, Marhena was beyond ecstatic at the idea of another dragon joining their family. Nilam was filled with a glowing warmth at the idea of being considered part of their "family". He was thrilled to join the group and did everything he could to help make himself useful during the remainder of the trip.

Nilam spent much of the trip showing the other dragons the things he knew about plants, and bubbling up with excitement every time they encountered one he had never seen before. He began collecting and cataloging them as they made their way across Sornieth and into the Sunbeam Ruins. He was thrilled to finally reach the Light Flight region, not only because they finally left the hottest region in Sornieth, but because he felt like they finally found a place to settle and create their own home. He was filled with a sense of peace and belonging when they arrived in their new home, and that feeling was amplified when they met Rasul. Alongside the rest of the group, he helped build their new clan. He assisted in building both Amaia's library and Hotaru's theatre, and several of the other buildings in their home. His role in the clan was a rather easy one to decide on, thanks to his knack for gardening. He has built a small garden on the edge of camp, where he grows a wide arrangement of different flowers, plants, and herbs.

Nilam is the definition of 'gentle giant'. He is a sweet and compassionate dragon who would do anything for another dragon in need. He can be rather quiet and he tends to keep to himself, but he is extremely warm hearted. He has a love of flowers and feathers and he collects them to decorate himself and others. He gets rather easily flustered when it comes to strangers and his own emotions, and he often stumbles over his own words when in awkward situations. He enjoys doing nice things for other dragons, and will often do sweet gestures without anyone ever finding out it was him. Despite his occasional nervousness, NIlam does his best to be friends with every dragon in the clan, and even those outside of the clan. He has a close bond with Amaia, Marhena, Zeno, Hotaru, and Stav due to the small group traveling for so long with one another. He has particularly close friendships with Hotaru and Joan.

After seeing Amaia and Everett's union, Nilam finally worked up enough courage to approach Marhena. He managed to confess his feelings to the other dragon, in between nearly passing out from nervousness and stuttering every other word. He was beyond ecstatic when Marhena recuperated the feelings. The two became inseparable, strengthening their already strong bond. Moving forward in their relationship was easy and natural for them, and seeing the pair seemed to strengthen the clan itself. The two spend about any free moment they can with one another. Although his is now technically the king of the clan, Nilam isn't a fan of the title or the politics it comes with. While he will attend meetings Marhena requests him at, he avoids as much of it as he can. Once their three children were born, Nilam was able to devote his time to caring for them. He has an especially close bond with Rin and Fannar, and much like with Marhena, he enjoys gifting his children with feathers and flowers he finds. Despite them being adult dragons now, Nilam dotes after his children constantly.
