Biography
- Hatchling Education: Biology
While Kenner had a good relationship with his parents as a hatchling, as he grew older he lost the protection of being a child. His timid, gentle nature was quickly compounded by anxiety from the constant heckling of his peers, who realized quickly that he would back down from a duel rather than fight it no matter how grievous the insult. Many used this as a way to increase their own standing, and the adult Wildclaws didn’t step in—if Kenner chose not to defend his own honor, that was his choice to make.
It eventually got to be too much for him. Naturally, upon fleeing his clan in the middle of the night, things went from bad to worse; he had no hunting skills, no ability to defend himself, and no idea where he was or where he was going. All he had was weak threads of magic he didn’t know how to use—he could conjure a flickering lightning bolt, but it rarely did more than make his opponents angry.
When Pride and Turania found him he was exhausted and starving, lost in the woods and too terrified to even fight them when Pride’s well-honed senses picked him up. It was a lucky thing Pride was still a Mirror back then, or she might not have noticed him at all.
The two of them brought the frightened young mage under their wings, but it was Turania who fell head-over-heels in love with him. Her courtship of Kenner was slow and at times awkward; Turania is a Wildclaw’s Wildclaw, every inch the honorable warrior, and was absolutely determined not to do anything that might frighten Kenner or make him feel pressured. She still makes a habit of going out of her way to do quiet, gentle things to help him--holding his bottles, going out with him on herb-gathering missions, planning private dinners and grooming his display feathers, all to make absolutely certain that he feels valued and loved.
It worked. From the very beginning Kenner felt safer with Turania than he ever had before, and it was actually her—the brawler without an ounce of magic in her body—who realized that the reason he struggled with casting was because his magic was keyed to healing, not to Lightning. They’re an odd couple, to be sure; but Turania adores him so much it aches, and he loves her more than he ever thought possible.
He’s blossomed in the clan she brought him to, and his healing magic and reassuringly calm bedside manner make him one of the most beloved members of the Reach, to Beastclan and dragonkind alike.
