Waiting For Love - Avicii

Uh-oh, looks like this pink beauty wandered a little too far from her home lair (316862, Chanter), and now she's off to see the world! If ever you feel the need to exalt, she'd really appreciate it if you could just return her to the home lair, or to the 'Dragons Off To See The World' thread. This is not necessary, but she would be very grateful!

______ Pearlie was just a simple Skydancer with big hopes. She left her home lair to go explore new flights. She went to a plague lair. She met a Fae there who greeted her with open arms. Pearlie got settled in this new lair very fast. She wandered around the lair, looking at all the cool things that the dragons who call this place home were doing. Then she stumbled into a fiery wildclaw. His name was Ainakea. She feel in love with him at first sight. He came over and talked to her for quiet some time. They learned about each other's past. Then he asked her if she would travel the world with him. Pearlie accepted immediately. They both packed up their belongings, said good bye, and flew off together.

______ And so they flew, over the rest of the Abiding Boneyard and Wandering Contagion, reaching the Sea of a Thousand Currents, and it's famous Leviathan Trench. It was a long but pleasant journey, with sunny weather and no Beastclan or unfriendly Dragon encounters.

Midway, Pearlie took the lead, leaving Ainakea slightly behind, teasing him to try and catch up with her. The Wildclaw promised to oblige, but first he wants to get closer to the surface of the sea, to dip his snout in and have a sip while flying. Pearlie laughed and kept on flying, turning around only at the sound of a loud splash.
Ainakea was nowhere to be seen.

You can only imagine the confusion that first struck the Skydancer at the sight of a wave-filled but otherwise pretty normal sea. Then came panic. Calling his name got her nowhere; there was no answer. She went back some few hundred meters or maybe more. Nothing. Just the deep blue. No sign of a struggle, no sign of a fight, no sight of any other living creature besides her. That splash she heard, it must be somehow connected to Aniakea's dissaperance, but... How? Why?

If she was any more desperate, she'd probably lunge deep into the blue water and try reaching the bottom in hopes of finding her mate, but the rational part of her mind knew that'd be a simple suicide. Should she go for the shore and call out for help from the local clans? She would, if she had the strength to. The travel took out a big chunk out of both of their stamina.

At a loss of what to do, she kept on circling around the spot where she heard the splash, hoping Aniakea would at least surface, if it even was true he ended up underneath the water. But that didn't happen, and her strength depleted rapidly. By the time she realized she should reach the shore, it was already too late, and she herself ended up crashing into the waves, feeling herself slowly sink into both the dark water and oblivion brought forth by unconsciousness.

"She's pretty..." An unfamiliar voice. "And she's coming to." Another one. Who do they belong to?
Her senses returned to her one at a time, and as she blinked, she found herself surrounded with more than a few dragons, of which two stood out: a shimmery white Tundra and a somewhat menacing-looking Guardian. Though the two were born in the regions of the Southern Icefield, they actually belonged to a local Wind clan. Wait a minute... Did she end up in the Windswept Plateau? How?

After shooing off the uninvited audience, Pearlie heard all about how the Guardian noticed her floating on the surface of the sea, kept afloat by a single Depin. What was one of those doing so far away in the deep waters remained a mystery, as the creatures cannot speak. Immediately inquiring about her mate, Pearlie was disappointed to hear that he was nowhere to be seen as it was a miracle the two even ran into her on their way back from a diplomatic mission. Despite the variety of dragons, food, wildlife and customs among Windies, Pearlie had no volition to explore any of it. Upon recovering, she flew off, notifying only Soul and Hero who found her. Soul gave her a sparkling arm bow, and the surprise made Pearlie smile for a moment. Soul smiled back and notified her that the bow already served it's purpose by making her smile, but that she hopes her mate will also like this little addition for when they reunite.

Perhaps it would be best to ask the surrounding Clans if they saw or rescued a particular cherry Wildclaw close to her heart.

______ "What do you mean, a mate?" asked Celeste floatily. "No, we haven't seen anyone around that like here." The daydreaming snapper paused. "Around here like that? Either way. Would you like to stay and train with us? Moonbeam's being very insistent on it actually, so if you want to stay you should probably get to it, everyone's doing it." Following her gaze, Pearlie caught sight of a stern-looking fae directing some dragons around and inhaled. She didn't have time for training. "I'd better get going, actually then."

Pearlie flew away, wondering when she would find her mate.

______ Pearlie's travels soon led her to the Cloudscrape Crags in The Southern Icefield. She kept close to the sea, always searching for her lost mate. She knew that if he was still alive, he most certainly wouldn't be in the sea anymore, but she always looked for him there anyway. Her wings starting to tire from flying, she slowly landed, stopping completely to take a rest. The cold was hard on her, she hadn't dressed properly at all.

"You sure look outta place." Pearlie looked around, trying to find the source of the voice. "Down here." She looked down and saw someone quietly treading in the half frozen sea, how was he still alive? "You're wondering how I'm not frozen to death, huh?" Raidne swam closer, carefully getting out of the water and sitting on the ground. "Well, to put it simply, I'm a mermaid." He splashed his tail, showing it off to her. "My skin is well insulated, it protects me from the frigid waters." Leaning back, he looks curiously at the Skydancer, tilting his head some. "You don't look protected from the cold at all though." Pearlie shifted a bit, walking a bit closer to the male. "I-I had a mate. I lost him. I'm trying to find him again."

"A mate, huh? What's he like?" His voice softened, losing a mate must've been hard.

"He's a beautiful Wildclaw with piercing red eyes, he's very adventurous and daring." Pearlie sat down next to the mermaid, a sad smile on her face.

"Hm... There are some Wildclaws in our clan, but none that fit that description, I'm sorry." Wishing that he could help her, Raidne quickly came up with an idea. "Hey, listen. You look exhausted and freezing, how about I take you back to my clan and you stay for a while? We can get you some warm clothes and food, too." Pearlie looked down at him, he had a warm smile on his face. "That's very kind... Thank you. I'll take you up on your offer, though I can't stay long." She smiled back, a genuine smile this time that wasn't sad. "Great! Well, let's get going." He slipped back into the water, swimming close to shore so she could easily keep up.

It seemed like her stay here would be nice, and she was actually looking forward to it.

______ Pearlie consoled her heartache among the Sunbeam Ruins. She met many dragons of CLAN WILD☆LIGHT and heard their stories. Although every dragon among the clan showed her kindness and encouragement, she began to lose hope of ever finding her mate. She grew comfortable among her friends, and did not want to leave such a comforting place. Pearlie knew of another traveling dragon among the clan, Revenant, who had also halted their adventure for quite a long time. When she saw the dragon leave in a frenzy one day, she wondered what happened. Had he realized he was not fulfilling his dreams? She could not stop thinking about it. She must leave soon too, if she were ever to find her dear mate again.

______ Crossing the Sea was always a boring task; either by sky ship or sea ship took weeks. An imp in extremely good condition was known to be able to fly the route between the southern islands of the Tangled Wood and the Tsunami Flats, but any farther crossing was only real in myth and legend. Pearlie had taken the journey once before, going from the Icefield to the Labyrinth, and the way back was just as long and dull as the first time.

Stepping back on Windy soil after being cooped up on the sky ship was like a breath of fresh air, quite literally. Looking around at the surrounding kites, streamers, and vendors hawking their wares around the port, Pearlie was hit with a pang of grief. She and Ainakea had planned to stop at one of the major Wind ports and take a sky ship around the world. Now it seemed, those plans were on indefinite hiatus forever. She shook herself off and told herself to focus; she had things to do. Play was the one thing that had stripped her of her beloved, and she would not fall to the same trap twice.

Unsurprisingly, finding a single dragon in the masses of Sorneith proved to be extremely difficult. She had dawdled to long in the Sunbeam Ruins, and though she had made good friends, most of the manifests from ports nearby to where she separated had been stored away or gotten rid off as time went on. With most travel records inaccessible, and most other trails all gone cold, she had her work cut out for her.

It took many months, but eventually she determined that Ainakea either was not in the Plateau, or very well hidden. In any case, she left a few notes around with a reward for alerting her where the wildclaw was, and traveled to a sky ship port. Perhaps he had left for another Flight’s territory, and she could find a trail there.

______ Somehow, Pearlie ended up on a ship to the Southern Icefields once more. She stayed with them until the very end of their journey, watching dragons come aboard and disembark for weeks. It wasn't even intentional, to stay so long, but she felt like she was trapped in a haze. She was losing hope and it was messing up her mind.

The ship had travelled to clan Valhall, a small but fascinating clan perched on the very end of the world. As far south as south went, they were, for beyond them was nothing but sea and mysteries.

It all went automatically. Pearlie had no treasure left, however, and the realization that her life was crashing down around her was like a slap to the face. The loss of her mate had broken her apart and now she was at a loss for what to do. Thankfully, the dragons of Valhall were kind. Despite not being able to pay for herself, they allowed her to stay.

And then the most peculiar thing happened. Pearlie was gazing up at the mountain that held the Fortress of Ends, thoughts racing in her mind. She was tempted to try and fly up there - perhaps the Icewarden could aid her?

Even though she knew she would never return if she went, it was tempting. At least then she would know.

"He would not answer," a soft voice spoke from behind her and Pearlie jumped, whirling around.

A pearlcatcher stood there, carefully cleaning her pearl. She wore a knowing smile that made Pearlie almost uncomfortable - it was as if the pearlcatcher could see right through her, see her most hidden thoughts and secrets.

"Who are you?" Pearlie asked, cautious despite having been treated well during her entire stay. There was no reason for her to distrust the other dragon, but she couldn't shake the feeling that something was off about her.

"I am Urd," the pearlcatcher replied lightly and walked over, leaning in close, "And I know where he is."

Only an hour later, Pearlie had packed all of her meager belongings, now including the gift she had gotten from Urd. It was a small mirror and Urd had said that if she peered into it when the moon was high, she would see a flicker of her loved one and would know where to go. There was only one thing on her mind, then, and she felt hopeful for the first time in forever. She knew where she was going and jumped onto the first ship that was leaving, forgetting entirely to ask where they were going. But she knew where she was going.

She was going to Ainakea - she was going to the Ashfall Waste.
