Biography
MORGANA
NIGHT COURT HIGHNESS |
There is a group of dragons, the stuff of legend, that is said to take contracts for almost any sort of dirty work one can imagine. Espionage, assassination, the Night Court does it all. They are based in no one territory, have no one motivation, and have no secret signal to know each other by. The most skilled of these dragons are the six Highnesses. Morgana is one of these elite courtiers – the Magical Princess.
She has been sworn to the Night Court almost from the moment of her hatching. Morgana cracked her egg in an Arcane nest, with no parents in sight. She shook herself off and promptly wandered off into the Starwood Strand. Was this a bad idea, for a defenseless hatchling to go walking into a dangerous area? Probably. Morgana had no reservations about her course of action. She remembers being determined, knowing there was something she had to find, a spell she had to perform. She didn't have the materials for it, of course, but she knew exactly what the spell was. The spell to summon a courtier of the night. As luck would have it, Morgana managed to steal all the components she needed from the den of an Arcane alchemist she found living as a hermit in the Strand. She killed the alchemist, and with his blood, performed the ritual spell to summon a Courtier. The Courtier, when he came, was expecting a contract. He wasn't expecting a trainee. Morgana managed to convince him to take her in, however, and earned her keep by helping him with his own assignments. In this way, she learned how the Night Court functioned, how to kill quickly and effectively, and honed her magical skills to exactly what she'd need. When she felt confident in herself, she was sworn in as a courtier and began to take assignments from the Majesties. As she aged and completed more and more missions, Morgana began to wonder exactly how she'd gotten herself into this. She had no regrets, but how had she known the spell to summon a courtier? Why had her young self immediately leaped at a life of murder and theft? No matter how hard she searched her soul, she found no answers, just an aching void that she only managed to fill with spellcraft. And, in time, she grew to ignore those questions. It was no matter, after all, when she had assignments to complete, things to steal, drakes to kill. And she did all of those things with ruthless ease. Morgana rose quickly and, when a Highness died, found herself in the position of Princess at long last. Here as a Princess, she feels more at ease than she has anywhere else. It's as if her life was made to be dedicated to the Court. As a Princess, Morgana leaps at the chance to take difficult and dangerous missions. She works well with her fellow Highnesses, though perhaps coming off arrogant at times, and lends her innate knowledge of spells and magical arts to the aid of the Court. Sometimes late at night, when she's alone and all is quiet, she'll still feel that yawning emptiness in her heart, but she never fails to push it aside. It's no matter, really. There's no need for the Magical Princess to know that she has a brother – or that, together, they are the reincarnation of one of the Court's first Queens. |
