The Glutton’s Charge
By Arkonsel
Some clans are too kind to kill. Some clans believe in rehabilitation or at the absolute worst, imprisonment.
Glacius was born into one of those clans. From the start, he had a strange, unnerving obsession with fresh eggs. He would stalk birds to their nests and gather their eggs, not to guard them but to consume them. He was very particular about how he ate them, though, refusing to let anyone else cook them for him or even touch them. The process of eating even one egg took hours. He’d pop them into one of his mouths and suck on them. Then very gently, using only one fang, he would pierce a little hole through the shell’s delicate membrane.
At first, it was just because the eggs tasted so good to him. So pure, free of all the contaminants of the magic that the Arcane Flight left everywhere. The nutrients they absorbed from the mother were filtered and cleaned as the eggs were formed. He couldn't resist.
Then one day, he found a solitary dragon egg. The moment his sharp fangs hit the delicate, flexible bone inside, Glacius knew he had found perfection. Bird eggs, in their slimy, half-formed liquidness were delicious, but they couldn’t compare to the delicacy of a still-forming embryo. The purity of the unborn hatchling was incomparable. Untainted by the world outside, untouched by anything except their deity’s magic…
He’d found his charge. His charge was his stomach. His charge was his own appetite.
For a while, he managed to secretly feed himself, but eventually, his clan caught him hunched over the corpse of an egg-heavy Pearlcatcher, tearing the eggs from her body, blood on his claws. Horrified but unwilling to kill him, they froze him in a glacier, hoping that centuries of solitude would force him to reconsider his vile ways.
Instead, Clan Nekrós found him and freed him from his transparent prison. He joined them gladly; here, at last, were dragons who did not judge his desires, but allowed him free reign to feast however he wanted. He has no interest in already-crushed eggs or even already-laid ones, so he seems to fit in rather nicely.
