Tree is part of her body. She refuses to talk about what happened to her so all thats known is that an accident happened in the starwood strand one time and the accident led to her and a starwood tree fusing.

was she full tree for a while? a conscious tree until her body could remanifest? or did she go straight to being a tree/dragon hybrid? did she look like this before the fusing? or did she gain a new appearance? can she photosynthesize? does she even need to eat? does the tree grow? does she have to trim herself?? how much of her body is wood vs flesh? is it even either or is it some weird fusion? how fusioned did she fusion with that tree?
we just dont know.

idea for why she is like this, loosely inspired by alleyes007's wellspring lore:
she got caught up in an area of intensely concentrated arcane magic, maybe probably stumbled upon something she shouldn't have, either the magic made her fuse with a tree or some... being punished her.
...orrrrr? maybe she's a former guardian of a wellspring and something happened to it? ooh. that'd be interesting. but then i'd have to find a way to modify and mix the wellsprings & their leylines with my own leylines... hm...

alternatively, the tree used to be her charge and then the Mysterious Accident happened leaving her fused with it. and that's why no one can tell what her charge is. (sometimes people theorize her charge is Saba but that is definitely not the case. they're just both largely asocial ppl who like the beach & get along well)

Lamakausi lives by the shore in a cliff cave she carved out herself with her best friend, Saba. It's relatively close to the clan, but far away enough that the two live in relative seclusion. Lamakausi is a quiet and serious guardian, who is extremely reluctant to talk about herself or her past. All the clan knows is that she showed up on Clan territory one day and never left and that the starwood tree she's 'wearing' is actually part of her body, though they don't know how. No one is even sure what her charge is. Lamakausi helps with odd jobs around town, sometimes bringing Saba with her. She helps move things, build things, etc. mostly manual labor, though she does help with pretty much anything someone might need an extra hand with."
