Biography
Umbra
Ages ago, after the birth of the Shadowbinder and Lightweaver, before the Shade bound the deities to a common cause, there was the White Army, and there was the Black Army. The White army was pure and honorable, fighting for the goddess who created them, the Lightweaver. They were a force of grand power. But where light is, there must also be darkness. The Black Army was stealthy and swift, landing blows with cold, calculated accuracy. They, in turn, fought under the Shadowbinder.
When the goddesses of the Armies joined the Pillar, the Black and White Armies were thrown into chaos. Without a commander to spearhead the attack, the Armies would dissipate into nothing more but two roving bands of soldiers. The mighty forces of light and shadow would turn into fighters with nothing to fight for. It was here that the White and Black Queens rose to rulership.
The Queens each took commandership of their respective armies. They each organized them into tiers, categorizing them according to their strengths. This is where the game commonly known as Chess came from.
They led their armies well, each of them clawing their way closer and closer to victory. Though, the armies were equal in every way. The equal balance of the forces led to a bloody, drawn-out end to the war. The sides each lost more and more dragons. First the pawns, then the rooks, then the knights and bishops and finally, the two second-in-commands of the opposing armies tore each other apart during the very last battle of the war. After this loss, the Armies fell apart until only the Queens remained. They disappeared, wandering the battlegrounds of their fallen comrades and enemies, unseen.
Until now.
After the fall of the Armies, Umbra roamed Sornieth under the cover of darkness. She searched for the White Queen, discovering now-ancient battlegrounds where Umbra once commanded thousands. All this time, nursing a bitter hatred for the former commander of the White Army. And, a sanity-consuming need for revenge. Over time, it ate away at her mind and soul until Umbra’s sole desire in life was to find the White Queen and kill her, finally putting her insanity to rest.
Umbra was highly skilled in fighting with a spear, and was rarely seen without it. The spear emitted a powerful necrotic blast each time it slayed an enemy. It was destroyed in the final battle that killed the Kings. |
Umbra’s Water heritage gave her gills and a natural swimming abilities. This let her stage great attacks using the surrounding bodies of water to her advantage.
|
Umbra prefers not to rely on magical abilities during her battles, apart from her spear. However, her necklace is lightly enchanted with the ability to recall any memory. This partially contributes to Umbra’s insanity, as it constantly reminds her of the loss of the Black King.
