The only surviving child born of Maedoc is a force to be reckoned with, but it hasn’t always been that way. At a young age, Basis was caught too far from home and ambushed by a band of harpies. They tried carrying her off to their roosts, but she fought so fiercely that they dropped her, no longer seeing her as worth the trouble. She fell nearly fifty feet to the rocks below, suffering severe head trauma that left her half-blind and constantly dizzy, as if the world were perpetually tilting beneath her. While the partial blindness remains, Basis has worked diligently her entire life to overcome the balance issues, training with Maedoc and Soibhan in combat and grace.

Though the dizziness has mostly vanished, she often suffers severe headaches that have progressively worsened as she’s gotten older. Her balance, however, has improved so much that it is almost impossible to tell that she ever had a problem and she is seen as one of the most ferocious protectors of the clan.

Anabasis has a particular soft spot for hatchlings and will sit with them for hours while they climb her like a tree, making up stories to keep them entertained and out of their parents’ way. If she is not out on patrol, the first place to look for her is the nursery.
