Steadfast

Steadfast guards at the edge of the abyssal trench, alert-magic always at hand in case something tries to surface near the clan. She used to live in an all-pearlcatcher coven, until one day her pearl took a tumble down a hill and cracked. The others, full of their kind's superstitions, wouldn't go near her after that. She finds living in a mixed-breeds clan much easier.

Covering the cracks in her pearl seemed impossible, so one day she just left it in her underwater cave out of frustration. She spent weeks ignoring it as best she could, but in the end her instincts wouldn't let her stay away from her precious pearl any longer.

Upon returning, she was amazed to find that barnacles had neatly sealed the cracks and repaired the damage for her. Since that, she has continued to let it stay submerged, but occasionally she does return to be close to it. The cave is smaller now, encrusted with layers of thriving marine life. Her pearl is part of it, shining between barnacles and shelled molluscs.
