Sometimes, in our own personal lives, we come to reflect on what it is that we know. Oftentimes, that reflection steers us in the direction of coming to terms about who it is that we are as well as to what it is that we will become. These questions, more often than not, will leave us pensive and, as such, may never leave us for they would remain unanswered. Yet, through little debate, we believe that the young do not fear these unknowns. That, for some reason, they live life carefree until their age has reached its peak. As to the "why," the answer is simple: The youth lives by three certain truths. And, it is of great importance that they should be upheld at all costs. For it is when these three truths are broken that a child is a child no more.
THE THREE TRUTHS
> The First Truth: No matter who they are and/or what they look like, each and every child is special.
> The Second Truth: A parent's love is unconditional both to them and, if present, their spouse.
> The Third Truth: That, regardless of what happens, a parent will never abandon you.
Yet, there are times when such importance to these three rules is washed away. So, the question soon becomes, what happens when these three truths are broken? That, if in just one single moment, a child witnesses a situation in which all they have ever believed in turned out to be false? Would it all just erupt into chaos or would a hole be left right where their innocence had been just a mere few seconds ago? Or, perhaps, it would all blow up into a thick cloud of fumes which would eat away and destroy everything that had looked just so right? Perhaps or perhaps not. Yet, one thing is certain. That this is when it marks the end of a child and brings forth the misery of which the broken truths arose.
Life has definitely not been simple for the young Raph. In fact, she was two halves of a world that she did not and could not understand. Her mother was a demon and her father was an angel. That much, she could comprehend, yet she could not quite grasp what made them so different… So… opposite. In her mind, they were so beautiful and so wonderfully alike. They were like the two halves of the black and white stones that she had seen not so long ago. The ying and the yang. Furthermore, her mother and father loved each other very much. Still, regardless of whatever else she was told, Raph lived a comfortable life with her brother. After all, they grew up believing that life was a perfect fairy tale and that nothing would be strong enough to destroy their peaceful and carefree lives. Until, it happened. It was then, at that moment, that Raph knew her life would never be the same again.
Right before it happened, Raph had woken up due to loud noises that had taken her from her sleep. She had blinked several times, rolled around about a hundred, and finally sat up grumpy from sleep. Still, she had waited until her daze had washed away before she had grogged-ly called out to her parents. Strangely enough, no answer came. And so, after having waiting for a short while, she arose from her slumber in order to make her way to where her parents were sleeping. Mikhail rose as well and so they, two, made their way through the dimly lit hallway. Yet, when they reached the corridor of their living room, they saw it happen. Unable to speak or even move, the two children watched in fear as their father loomed over their defenseless mother. Fear soon overcame them so much so that their bodies trembled. They had never seen their father in such a way and they were terrified.
Yet, once their mother saw her children watching, she broke from her own fear and moved to protect herself and them. But, it was all in vain for her husband had no mercy. Crashing down atop of her, Raph’s father moved to the offensive and, without a care for his children, he brutally began his onslaught upon his victim… his beautiful wife. Petrified, Raph snapped out of her own fear and, with newfound adrenaline, grabbed hold of her brother’s hand and ran from their home as fast as she could. Never again would she live her life as a carefree child and never again would she feel the loving touch of her beloved parents. Now, only a hole was left and her reality smashed for she would never be an innocent child again. After all, her three truths would be broken, shattered, and never again would they be repaired.

"Just one more time..” Fatigue crept through the weary wings of the young Nephilim as her teeth clenched in self-destructive fury. Her mind was racing and her heart was pounding faster than it had ever pounded before. In her mind, she was back in that living room. Yet, this time, she was not as weak as she was before. Perhaps this time, she would regain what she had lost. After all, she was determined to finish it and finish it she would. ”Just one more…”
”That’s ENOUGH!” A booming voice could be heard ringing through the training rooms of the clan, thus breaking the poor Imperial's focus and causing her to bump hard against the wall. Dazed, she shook her head wearily to wash away the swirling lights that had momentarily clouded her mind. "What do you think you're doing!?" Her reality snapped back and her eyes would immediately dart up to the voice she knew so well -Gabriel. Her gaze would shift back down for she knew she was in trouble. Yet, no excuses were made and so not a word would be said. Gabriel would only sigh, and shake his head back to and fro. "Take a rest. I don't want to see you here again today." With those parting words, her mentor would take light and disappear from the vicinity.
Raph's eyes would flash in anger, but she knew that he was right. She had both disappointed and worried the usually joking Gabriel, but she had half the mind to resume her training. Still, with a heavy heart, she left the training grounds and made her way to the otherwise peaceful meadows. Biting her lip, she plopped onto the grass with a frustrated huff. It was only then that she noticed how tired she actually was. The young Imperial would sigh, close her eyes, and ponder her own situation.
The warrior loved the clan. In fact, without them in her life, she would not be the dragon she was today. Raph smiled softly at the thought as she curled up, her gaze wandering to where the children were playing. She watched as they would throw their ball into the air and smack it around so that it would not touch the ground. Her smile would then turn to that of a painful one. Would she have been just like them many years ago? Laughing, playing, and without a care for the world? Perhaps. She knew things would have turned out differently and yet, for some strange reason, she could not see herself wanting to be anyone else. Her eyes closed as she stretched out her wings. Her talons scratching at the dirt as she did so. It was something she had struggled so many years to comprehend and, yet, being who she was today was something she was proud of.
Her eyes would open once more and shift up towards the sky. Gabriel was right. She had been practicing too hard and, by doing so, she had not progressed. She had let herself go into the want for vengeance and it had not been to her favor. Her eyes would shift back towards the children playing. Sure she would finally bring her father to justice, but, for now, she would protect her clan and the hatchlings. After all, what better way to combat her father's stain on her life than to become someone who would protect the innocence of those who still had it?

I am many things—
I am a warrior, a survivor,
A daughter

I am my past:
A dreamer, expecting everything
But knowing little

I am my fury:
Vengeance in a hide of hateful scales,
Bearing this one desire in a heart so heavy
I am sinking with the weight
Of waiting to bare my wrath,
Bare my hidden scowl,
Bare my bitten heart,
Bare my beating blades

I am blood-red:
Ready to bleed

I am my nightmares:
Revenge-possessed,
Obsessed with the goal
That crowds my chest

I am my insomnia:
I cannot rest,
Not until my father has paid for his theft

And they can never understand
I could tell them what he took from me
But they can never understand

He took my innocence
He took my trust
He took myself
And thrust me into an orphan’s skin
And yet, they’ll never know the life I’ve lived

But I’m reborn
A phoenix focused only
On avenging the child
Who lost her innocence
And ability to trust
Who was thrust into a strange life
While everything she knew turned to dust

And I could tell them, I truly could
I could tell them the whole tale
But they can never understand
They can never understand
They can never understand
What it’s like in these hateful scales
