A quiet, glum, and introverted young pearlcatcher who works in Willow's garden as one of her students.

Before she arrived, she had already convinced herself that she was cursed with a "black thumb". Any plant she touched just ended up withering away and dying -- no matter how adamantly she cared for it. Amarantha's concerned parents, both being highly accomplished botanists themselves, fretfully observed their disheartened daughter's misery as she fell behind in her studies. They were at a loss as to what to do, yet did their best to encourage her while figuring out why she struggled so much more than the other far more fortuitous students in her class. Her innate magic seemed to emanate at a completely different wavelength that was beyond her control.

"Those are pretty flowers. Bright and blue - like your stripes." rumbled Jacek. His massive algae-coated form loomed over one of the delicate blossoms and sniffed at it appreciatively. "They kinda remind me of the ones growing in front of Zaer's lai-"

Amarantha felt her heart leap up into her throat. She whipped around and cut off the guardian a bit too tersely than she intended to. "I was inspired."
