Solstice Dawnbringer - Solstice Dawnbringers are harbingers of luck and good fortune for the new year. Created soon after the fall of the Hewn City, they experienced a terrible tragedy when the first Solstice Dawnbringers fell shortly before Brightshine Jubilee. Arisen a year later, they were the ones who created the yearly calendar all of Dragonkind use to this day. Time is a very important concept to them, and they are responsible for sculpting the Sundial Terrace. Throughout the year, they have the ability to grant small wishes, but every year when they gather for the Sornieth New Year and Brightshine Jubilee, they grant one wish, any wish, to a single Dragon. H I S T O R Y
A long time ago, after the fall of the Hewn City, Imperials and Pearlcatchers lived in peaceful harmony on the other side of the river. One day, with Brightshine Jubilee fast approaching, the residents of the Sunbeam Ruins were enjoying their time preparing for the celebrations. A few days before the festival was to begin, however, something strange began to happen. It was a very bright day, the brightest in a very long time. The Dragons of Light did not think of time as a cycle; they counted time as a continuously straight line, forever moving forward, only knowing that it was time to celebrate Brightshine Jubilee after Greenskeeper Gathering, when the days were long and hot. Nothing else repeated: not birthdays, anniversaries, nothing at all, as they did not have a calendar then to count the days. Until that day came, however. Many hatchlings were born that bright day, all at once. Every resident of the Sunbeam Ruins took notice of this, and they saw something miraculous happen right before their eyes.. The sun seemed to shine even more intensely when the hatchlings began to emerge from their shells, and one by one they all turned towards the sun, as if it was drawing them to it. When the last emerged, the sun pulsed with a warm Light, bathing the residents and hatchlings in its ethereal glow. As the sun glistened across the wings and bodies of the small hatchlings, the elder Dragons began to notice their colors beginning to shift. The sun's pure white Light split into its three basic colors: a passionate Red, a serene Blue, and a cheerful Yellow. To the residents' disbelief, the hatchlings seemed to absorb the colors into their scales and wings. This was taken as a benevolent sign from the Lightweaver and all of the Sunbeam Ruins' residents rejoiced that day. However, all good things do come to an end... It is quite unclear what happened that night, but the few Solstice Dawnbringers who have spoken up tell of a terrible tragedy, all naming the incident 'The Fall'. From what they have told, it remains the most catastrophic event in their culture's history. Based on what little the Solstice Dawnbringers have divulged and from their own findings, historians have pieced together that 'The Fall' occurred the night the miraculous hatchlings emerged from their shells. That night, all of the hatchlings blessed with the sun's brilliant colors passed away seemingly without cause, their colors fading away as the day fell to the night. It remains a terrible mystery to this day, but the Solstice Dawnbringers would say no more about it. But, even in the darkest nights, the sun will rise again... For exactly one year later, when the Sunbeam Ruins' Dragons had long since stopped mourning the loss of their wondrous hatchlings, another miracle took place on the brightest day before Brightshine Jubilee. When the residents awoke that morning, they came across a sight that no one could explain. Before them stood the blessed hatchlings, very much alive and fully grown into adults. At first the residents were fearful at the sight of the risen Dragons, for what kind of dangerous magic could bring back the dead? Their suspicion did not last long, however, and the Sunbeam Ruins' residents soon rejoiced at the return of their beloved children, as colorful as the day they were hatched. They were quickly named the Solstice Dawnbringers, for they were hatched on the brightest and most brilliant day of the year, bringing hope and renewal with them. Since then, the Solstice Dawnbringers have declared that the longest, brightest day of the year just before Brightshine Jubilee would be the Summer Solstice, and the beginning of the Sornieth New Year. The Solstice Dawnbringers taught the Dragons the importance of 'Time' and 'Beginnings' with the rising and setting of the sun, and shared their concept of the calendar year with all. The calendar year still used across Sornieth today is based upon the first Solstice Dawnbringers' teachings, and historians have found evidence that the Sundial Terrace may have been constructed by the Solstice Dawnbringers. The Sundial Terrace has since become an important site to the Solstice Dawnbringers, as it is the place they hold their yearly Ceremony of Dawning Light.
