Long ago, a small ridgeback male was born into a happy family, along with three others from his clutch; Eugenia, Finn, and Aella. It was not uncommon to breed and to have clutches simply to sell them away, especially since his parents displayed the Opal gene, which was quite rare at the time. But... this was different. When Wigmar was born, his parents wanted rid of him, as quickly as possible. They would quickly latch onto any passerby and plead, even beg for them to buy their baby. Eugenia was sold, and then Finn, and then Aella. Soon, the ridgeback was left alone, nearly an adult. With every dragon who walked by his stall in the auction house and refused to buy, he grew more and more bitter.
Eventually, though, a strange, hooded fae walked up to the stand. Freak jumped up as swiftly as possible. "150 gems for this opal ridgeback," he said quickly, barely giving himself a chance to breathe. "He's a descendant of Naomi. Ever heard of her?" He adjusted his monocle. The fae studied Wigmar carefully, examining him closely. Wigmar wasn't sure what to think of this odd dragon, but wished someone would just take him away anyways. Anywhere but here. Pulling a huge sack of gems, seemingly out of nowhere, the fae scooped out precisely 150 gems and handed them to Freak. He squealed like a hatchling. "He's all yours!" The fae motioned for Wigmar to follow her, and so Wigmar finally found his home.
At the new clan, he was, rather unexpectedly, greeted by... absolutely nobody. There was nobody waiting at the entrance of the cave for him, nobody in the fields to say hello to the new dragon. Wigmar looked around, and his heart dropped in realization. He was going to be trained and exalted. It was an honor, of course, but he had just wanted a home where he'd be accepted.
