origins.
When Daphnis hatched, her skin cracked, blood welled to the surface, and her body was nothing but red and wet.

They wrapped her in bandages but they soaked though. They stitched her closed and the blood ran through the cracks. They tried to put her back together with magic, but the Shade in her blood ate it up and spat out black.

Out of options, Daphnis' parents sat with her for her last hours. What they thought were her last hours. Daphnis bled and bled and bled, and would not die.

It seems she inherited more than just her colours from her mother.

The blood made it too slippery for her to hold a blade, no matter how many wraps she wove through her fingers. Her parents only crafted blades; swords, spears, knives. Occasionally a bow, but nothing for their newest daughter to grip.

Then, her mother pounded out something just for her - a pair of spiked brass knuckles inscribed with purging runes. Daphnis rejoiced. Now, though her skin bled, her body hurt, and the Shade prevented her from getting the treatment she wanted, she could retaliate.

She could make it pay.

Despite the constant pain, despite the blood and the Shade trying to eat her whole, Daphnis is unwaveringly optimistic. She never fails to see the good in everything. She's always commenting on how good the day is, from the blistering sun to the pouring acid rain of the Boneyard.

Unfortunately, she tries so hard to see the best in everything that she allows it to cloud her judgement. She will not see something bad for what it truly is, and thinks every bad dragon can truly change. This can get in the way of her Shadehunting, for she thinks a dragon can be purged in any stage, when really some beasts just need to be put out of their misery.

Daphnis is kind. She is compassionate and empathetic, and uses her antennae for good, soothing the scared and quelling the miserable. Alongside her Shadehunting duties, she helps out with errands and fetching things for those unable.

She is utterly selfless, and in a battle she will do anything to keep her partners out of harm's way. She sacrifices everything for the sake of others, and fits squarely into the 'knight in shining armor' box she was put in the day she hatched.
