Sunstripe

Sunstripe is...wrong, to put it lightly. He wasn't supposed to be there. Or here. Or anywhere. He is a mistake. A good one, mind you, but still a mistake.

He was born to Coco and Starstreak in a litter of 4. There were only supposed to be 3 eggs. Nobody knows how his egg popped up in a litter of 3. Everyone just goes with it whenever it's brought up. When the litter finally hatched, Sunstripe came out with small black horns (which eventually grew into antlers) and a small rock formation above his left eyebrow (which eventually spread across his body and became the 'coat' it is today). A little startled by their unexpected brother, Coral, Flamingnight and Crimson squeaked in alarm and just stared. Coral started batting at the small hatchling, trying to find out what it was. Crimson bared her teeth and scratched him lightly. Flamingnight huffed at Sunstripe and put his paw on Sunstripe's paw to see how he'd react.
In response to all 3 of the slightly annoying hatchlings surrounding him, Sunstripe squeaked LOUDLY. Coral screeched and curled up into a terrified ball. Flamingnight just stood still, hair standing on end. Crimson lunged at Sunstripe, but was promptly stopped by Coco. Coco tucked Crimson under his wing and kept him away from the other 3. Starstreak then brushed by her mate and sat down to welcome her hatchlings into the world and tell them all about their clan, family, and how they should treat other dragons with respect.

2 years passed by. All 4 of the hatchlings were growing into respectable young wyrms, lesson by lesson. At around 2 years and 5 days, Crimson killed her first animal- a lion. Concerned for her safety, Coco and Starstreak kept her outside of the forest the clan was on the edge of for a while. Coral was your average perky student, usually getting Cs and Bs with the occasional A, and somehow being able to maintain a healthy group of friends at the same time. Flamingnight was rarely seen, always inside and studying all the Arcane lore that ever was and making theories to solve unsolved mysteries. Sunstripe...Sunstripe was a special flower.
He was known as the unknown one. Nobody knew how he came into being or why he had grown to be so misshapen. His small rock protrusion had grown to cover both his eyebrows in a majestic, studded crystal crown. His small horns had grown 2 protrusions, just like small antlers. He almost never showed up for lessons, preferring to spend his time in the forest, playing with small animals, most of which were accidents just like him. He coddled them and often brought them back to the clan with him. When he did show up for lessons, he often failed, getting Ds and Fs constantly. Unless it was about forest life, in which case he never got a grade below B.

Another 3 years passed by. Flamingnight had gone off to study with the Arcanist and became friends with all the dragons who had left his very same clan to study with the Arcanist. Crimson had been put in an asylum outside the clan, and her parents and siblings grieved. Coral's grades dropped and dropped, going from B and C to C and D- up until she stopped showing up for lessons period and instead needed counseling to deal with a minor bout of depression. Coco and Starstreak simply spent days coddling with each other and going on nature walks to contemplate what had gone wrong in the womb for Starstreak's second litter to turn out so...strangely.
Sunstripe had grown a huge COAT of crystals over the front of his body. His antlers had nearly grown to their fullest. He had grown a little more social. Coincidentally, around the time Crimson was put in the asylum outside of the clan, Sunstripe had committed an act of accidental murder. Yes, he MURDERED someone. He had accidentally murdered a small fae that had left the forest intent on joining the clan. How? He was playing tag with his friends when he accidentally rammed into a tree. Slightly stunned and a little dizzy, he got up to see that he had rammed right into a small green fae. He promptly gave it a grave at the site of its death and swore never to run in such a cramped space (a clearing that was barely big enough to fit him and his three friends) again.
