Nightdew

Dusk is powerful. The skies are painted in cool blues and warm reds, and magic lingers in the sunset shadows. The moon and the sun cross paths here; while the moon shyly fades into existence, the sun gloriously burns itself alive. Nightdew’s runes catch the fading light and glow a brilliant scarlet, and the pale circle of a full moon reflect in her arcane eyes.

Dusk is also a time of hesitation, as the sun and the moon must decide whether it is day or night, warm or cool, good or evil. Nightdew, too, pauses. The words of the runes etched into her scales falter on her tongue. As the sun nestles into the hills, she holds her pearl closer to her belly. Then she speaks.

The runes come out as she expected them to; once the first rune is spoken, they pour from her mouth without her permission. As the sun sets further and further into the sky, the trees of the Starwood Strand come alive -- time and space seem to expand infinitely outward. When it ends, the woods awaken.

At first Nightdew cannot name the intense power resonating throughout her body. The vibrancy of life around her floods her, and it seems as if every vein within her has been set on fire. When some creature shifts in the Starwood Strand, she feels her own blood gravitate toward it; her nostrils are overcome with the stench of rust; she can feel exactly what that creature is, exactly where it stands, exactly what it feels. Nightdew has found it -- blood.

Eternities pass and the overwhelming waves of power settle, but Nightdew knows the feeling of invocation will continue to engulf her for weeks to come.

A moth flutters. Nightdew feels it. The sun sets, and the dusk subsides.
