Lore

“Hey, Dad! We found something really shocking on our border patrol! It’s so dangerous it threatens the very existence of our clan! Look, here’s evidence of its ferocity!” Whipping out a photograph, Zephyrwing shoved it in front of her father’s masked snout. On the still footage was a snarling chimera-like beast, singlehandedly fighting against three dragons from the border patrol who each had numerous scratches on their flanks and scales. Bits of scales, fur and feathers were everywhere as the intense duel of beast versus dragon ripped up the land around them.

Breeze gasped. “We must go now! This is a huge threat to our clan! Warriors, assem-” The clan leader was cut off by his daughter slapping a front paw to his muzzle.

“We don’t have time! Hurry!” she hissed, flying straight out the window. Sighing, Breeze followed. As Zephyrwing raced towards the site, a playful smirk danced across her seafoam-coloured snout. You are so in for this, Dad.

They had been flying for quite a while now, and Breeze was starting to get impatient. “Where are we going? Are you sure the others can hold their own for so long?” Zephyrwing gave a brief nod, racing ahead into a dense copse of trees. Folding her wings, she heard a loud crash and the breaking of several branches, followed by a pained ‘oomph!’ presumably coming from Breeze. Sometimes my dad can be such a klutz, she thought, rolling her eyes and turning back to make sure that the clumsy Spiral was okay.

“I’m fine!” A muffled voice rang out from the pile of leaves, branches and apparel. Sighing, Zephyrwing used her magic to blow everything off her father, who gratefully smiled at her and picked up his lantern. “Right. Where is this chimera beast thing?” The seafoam - coloured Skydancer beckoned to her father with her plumed tail, purposely taking the long route and stepping on as many twigs as she could to make sure everydragon was ready.

“Dad, hurry up!” she yelled, a signal for the fun to begin. Immediately, a snarling beast leaped out at Breeze, letting out a bone-chilling roar. Then came the funniest part.

“AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!”

That ear-piercing scream had come from none other than Breeze himself, as he tangled himself into knots in terror. “Help… me…” he croaked, before falling into a dead faint.

“Did you like the greeting, Dad?” Zephyrwing bounced excitedly up and down in front of her father. They were back in the camp, in Breeze's room. Breeze groaned, still catching his breath back. His bodyguards had managed to untangle the almost hopelessly knotted Spiral, and now he lay on the floor exhausted from the ordeal.

“Second… time… the bodyguards… had to untangle… me…” he panted, glaring at his daughter who only cheekily smiled back. “What was that… about…?”

“Oh, we had Stormwire dress up as the chimera. The scratches were just body paint,” Zephyrwing explained cheerfully. “Happy April Fools’ Day, dad!” Next, she dove out of the window, relishing the cool wind ruffling her wings, ignoring Breeze's angry shouts of protest.
