APOSTASY- Scavenger
Maybe he's a scavenger because he's always been searching. At least, that's what he'd like to think. It fills his bones, the need to belong somewhere, to belong to something or someone or anything at all. The empty space is all-consuming on some nights, and just needling on others, but he knows its there. Apostasy has always known. The coven tells him that they found him as an egg in the Tangled Wood, abandoned to the mercy of the elements and probably stolen from a home he never knew. The coven adopted him because it was the right thing to do, and while they loved him as they raised him, Apostasy has always wondered if anything would be different if he had been raised by his parents first. So he wanders. He wanders endlessly, and he puts his travels to good use. When the coven needs new supplies for their infinite rituals, he is the first to volunteer to fetch whatever they need. Sometimes, it's as easy as an errand to the next clan over, a short barter for common supplies. Other times, it's more like a quest, reaching far and wide across Sornieth, taking Apostasy to all corners of the world. It is these trips he relishes most. They give him a sense of freedom and importance as the coven awaits his return; they need him, and he needs them in turn, but until he finds what they asked for, he is free to search. More than once, an errand became an adventure as he delved deeper beneath the surface of the wide world, seeking answers to everything and anything. Nonetheless, he always returns to the coven. Perhaps its the sense of devotion he feels to them, and his fierce devotion to the signs of the Shadowbinder the witches interpret among plumes of thick midnight smoke. Her omens call him back every time, insistent that he always come home; all of her children do, do they not? But perhaps his return is spurred on by failure, too. He has yet to discover the lands from which he ultimately came, and no matter how much he yearns to know the truth, it eludes him. So Apostasy hides his disappointment, wears his devotion on his sleeve, and always comes home in the end. There, he is a changed dragon, no longer marveling at the wideness of the world. He saunters among the witches like he owns the world, and given the chance to flirt with dragons passing through, he will take it. In spite of this, though, it's clear his heart belongs to Tirithran, one of the few heretics that still shelters with the coven. His flirting takes on a softer note in her presence, something kinder and warmer than the casual advances thrust at everyone else. If anything, it looks like she's become his true anchor, like she helps ease the hiraeth that gnaws at him day and night, and Apostasy has never denied it. Bio by Tues. |
