He had become a story, told to children at night, to warn them of the dangers of magic. Of how it could twist and change a dragon's very form if used too much or often.
He didn't ever listen to the warnings spoken to him as he practiced and played, using his magic for pranks on other and for giving himself what he desired.
A spell meant to make his mane dazzling, a spell to make his eyes sparkle. He never thought it might backfire on him one day.
His eyes were glazed over, a permanent pink hue to them, not blind but still startling to see. Though his eyes were startling to see, his mane was the real eye catcher. It floated about on a phantom wind, always moving, always in motion no matter what he was doing or where he was.
It looked as if he'd plucked part of the night sky and thrown it into his mane. The constellations and colours were always shifting with that phantom wind.
He was more careful with his magic now, never casting anything to himself of that scale again, sometimes he wonders if he might be able to undo the spells he had put on himself, but then he thinks about how far his magic had come, and how everything that had happened was a reminder.
So that he never forgot what could happen if you weren't careful.
