______ Have you ever seen the ocean at night beneath the meteor's gaze? Wonder beyond imagination ignites in my eyes every time a meteor swooshes by. My mother always told me that not all coatls come from the fires of ashen ruins. At first, I thought she was joking; at school hatchlings were always taught where each breed originated. My mother sternly corrected me that some coatls true home is in a place where fire does not exist. Now I know what she means. On the stormiest nights, where the moon hangs overhead beckoning me, I love flying over the waves. My sisters thought I was weird, but my friend, Cumulus the coatl outcast, said it is in our hearts where we find happiness. Mine was the sea.

______ I know what you're thinking, I'm a coatl, and yes, I swim worse than rocks. But the sea knows different; it wants me to swim! Even my dad respects the sea, he and his cousin Iriehana take me to water festivals all the time. Recently, I longed to leave my home here. I know I don't live in the Ashfall Wastes, and Arcane will always be my birth home, but maybe it's time I go answer the sea… I'm taking my chances tonight.
