Embraced by the stars in the sky and the whispering leaves of the trees, gently moved by the chilly wind, a silhouette sat watching the reflection of the constellations on the waters of the Andromedean Lake. She let out a hush... long as the winter nights that had gone by and were to pass still.
A second someone came from between the refulgent bushes, full of brightly colored flowers and fireflies. They appeared to dance around the solitary lady, who observed them mesmerized at the spectacle.
The new person sat by her.
She did not speak to them. She simply accepted their presence, and looked at them with a gentle expression, like inviting them to partake of the lighting spectacle.
The second person focused on the horizon. The reflection on the water remained perfect, unaltered, pristine. One would have to look twice to realize that sky and water, in fact, were distinct and not an extension of each other.
"He still hasn't come back," the first person said.
"Could tell from the look in your eyes," replied the other.
But they received no response. The wind was blowing again, still cold. Some leaves fell from the trees, creating waves on the surface of the waters, distorting the reflection.
"We cannot stargaze if we are looking at a reflection of the stars. By looking down to the waters, we are also turning our back to the real stars. And this appearance is so frail... All appearances are."
"Are you still... upset?"
"No."
"Yet you sound upset."
"I don't think 'upset' is the right word."
"Then what is it?"
"None. That is just how things are. Just as we are watching the reflected stars. Because we want to. And because it is more comfortable than looking at the sky- it is sometimes harder to look at the real things."
Silence.
"And", she continued, "sometimes we just cannot have people look in the same direction as us if they do not want to. Yet it is easier to understand each other if we are looking at the same image."
