Biography
She had been a leader once before. The clan she oversaw was small, but thriving. Situated deep in the tangled wood, no one thought any harm would befall them.
Then the raiders came. Razed homes to the ground, plundering the remains and cutting down anyone that stood in their way, dragon and hatchling alike.
And she, frightened of what she saw occurring to her friends and loved ones… fled.
She ran for days, against brambles and fungus and the screams of those lost stuck in her head. She ran until she collapsed.
And despite the guilt that ran through her, she begged the Shadowbinder for forgiveness.
Silence was her only answer.
She traveled for weeks, barely stopping for food or drink, when something began calling her Home.
When she finally reached the rocky border of Dragonhome, she thought she felt a change. Though she would carry that weight with her always, maybe the Earthshaker had a plan for her yet.
With that, she pressed ever forward.
-
When she heard through the grapevine that Nebula had stepped down as leader, and the Clan was looking for a new one, she came quickly.
She explained to the two in a few words that she had once been the leader of a Clan elsewhere and was more than qualified for the job. Nebula, who was only half listening simply stated that there was nothing left for him there. Carmine, with a smile, replied that she could have the position as long as she tried to do her best by the members of the Clan. If it turned out that she didn't, there would be severe consequences. She promised that she would do her best. After all, this was her chance to make up for what she had done.
She was instated as leader to the baffled looks of the Clan members that had gathered around. She didn't blame them for not readily trusting a stranger.
---
"For the sake of the renewal of the minds of your former leader and many of you loyal Clan members, I feel it's best that we moved from here. I suggest that we go to Dragonhome."
The dragons she was speaking to looked at each other in surprise. A silence fell over the crowd.
Immediately paranoia washed over her. She shouldn't have done this. She shouldn't have asked this of them. Some of them would be leaving all they'd ever to possibly never return. She had to retract her statement.
But, before she had the opportunity, a voice spoke. "I agree," Carmine said from the back of the group. The accountant, who's name she couldn't recall, nodded his ascent after her, and then, one by one, other's began to agree as well.
"This is, of course, a voluntary action. If anyone does not wish to go, they should feel free to stay behind. Otherwise, I think it's best to leave at sunrise tomorrow."
As dragons disbanded to move to their dens and gather their things she breathed a sigh of relief. Maybe she wouldn't mess this one up after all.
