Though she had only just settled in, the young pearlcatcher woke early that night. Drawn by a pull that had become all too familiar, the growing hatchling uncurled from around her pearl - which was almost as large as she was - and took it with her as she walked outside, leaving the nursery that Skyla tended behind for the moment.

For over an hour, the youngster gazed at the stairs, oblivious to the world around her, the echoing thunder of nearby lightning storms not a dissuasion...little seemed to faze her, young though she was. However, someone found her eventually, and that someone could move surprisingly quietly when he wanted to.

"I was wondering where you went," a pleasant voice spoke from behind her. She turned around to see the same beautiful, golden skydancer that had been one of the dragons to greet her upon her arrival. The light of the stars and moon caught and reflected on the myriad jewels inset in his scales, stained pale whilst scattering pastel iridescence upon the ground. Iridescence that shifted and shimmered when he moved. Sunburst, she recalled was his name. "You like stargazing, Deiene?"

"Yes," the young pearlcatcher, Deiene, replied. She then tilted her head quizzically. "You look tired."

"It's night, I'm always drowsy at this time," Sunburst chuckled, then gently nudged her towards the shelter of the lair carved into the cliffside. "You shouldn't be out here alone and-" he was interrupted by a yawn. "-I don't do well trying to stay up with the sun down. Come, we'll see if Ipala can be dragged from his cauldron by dawn."


"Knew it," Sunburst announced cheerily, walking into the clan's alchemy lab as if he belonged there, Deiene in tow. "Good night to you, night owl Ipala. Say, wouldn't a break from these fumes do wonders for your lungs and nose? Deiene here's been stargazing again, and I nearly fell back asleep on the way over."

"Ever heard of knocking, Sunburst?" Ipala asked as he turned around to face his visitors, but he seemed more amused than anything. Clad in a lab coat, various items of darksteel, and claws glowing the purple of someone who'd dipped their claws in alchemical goo too many times, it was very obvious that the black skydancer with faceted wings was the clan's main alchemist. "Go back to your nest, Sunburst. Deiene will be safe with me."


And so the young pearlcatcher returned to her stargazing, this time with the shadow-born Ipala to keep watch over her on the barren, desert canyon floor. And as she watched, she saw things. Both great and terrible, but only briefly. Too brief to really grasp, and instead of scaring her, it made Deiene yearn to know more.

The clan's first burgeoning seer, was just starting to come into her power...


I see things in the stars. They whisper to me, on breezes only I hear and feel. They sing to me. Slowly, I am learning. Slowly, I begin to understand. I keep quiet, for how to put into words what I know, when I am not sure what it is myself? Maybe someday, I can tell the others. My gift, and so my gift unto them, for their gift of giving me this loving home and family.

But for now, the stars call to me. And so I watch, listen, and learn...

Family: Ephron (mother), Dreail (father), Tasfi (nestmate brother/triplet), Amba (nestmate brother/triplet).
Element: Water.
Flight: Lightning.
Home Clan: Flubi's (lore clanname unknown, so using username as placeholder).
Current Clan: Auric.

Personality: Gentle, quiet, knowledgeable, curious, has nerves of steel.
Voice: Sweet, gentle, soft-spoken, and light. Has a slightly dreamy quality to it.
Likes: The stars, cool breezes, nighttime, still and clear water, reading, learning.
Dislikes: Sudden loud noise, being ignored when she has something important to say, being asked to predict trivial nonsense.
Friends: Ipala, Sunburst, Thiadith, Skyla.
Enemies: Currently none.

Apparel: The ghost flame tail jewel she found while playing in the clan's hoard as a hatchling, and Skyla allowed her to keep it - it has since become one of Deiene's favoured possessions, though she isn't really sure why beyond its visual appeal.

Gijinka Appearance: True, obsidian-black skin with paler markings that resemble her cherub gene, with iridescent blue-and-purple hair that goes to just below her shoulder blades. Eyes are a deep, rich ocean blue. Her neck, throat, chest, and abdomen are the same steel blue as they are in dragon form, as well. She appears to be around eleven or twelve years of age. As for clothing, she usually wears a simple black dress with bare feet. The ghost flame jewel is tied in her hair in this form.

Other: Her pearl is larger than normal for her age due to the knowledge she has gained as a seer - this causes her to produce more of the pearl-maintaining black tar to encompass all the knowledge she has gained that day. It's a pretty good sign to other pearlcatchers, at least, to take her a bit more seriously than they might otherwise for an adolescent so young.
