There was always a strange fire in her eyes that manifested whenever she was presented with a challenge or set her mind on accomplishing a task; an inferno that burned through any one who dared call themselves her opponent. She was relentless, so scintillating and brilliant in all she did that sparks trailed behind her and left flames in her wake. Certainly it would not be hard to imagine why many would find her to be intimidating — someone as intense as she, they thought, would simply devour all those near her until they themselves were ash.

But there are days where she was more akin to dying embers rather than a bonfire — burnt out and waiting for something to inspire her passion again. On those days, more than most, she longed for someone who didn’t feel frightened by her vigour; someone who would rather light and stoke her fire than extinguish it. For that person, she would incinerate the entire world if it would make them smile; she would no longer be afraid of going out in a blaze of glory if it meant keeping them safe.

Until that day comes, she will wait patiently for that person, flipping the hourglass over and over for an eternity with the hope of igniting again.
