The Frozen Missionary

fr__tiny_pixel_ice_icon_by_baelfin-d8stgz4.png

The cold is his home and where he feels the most comfortable. In body and attitude he has been frozen since birth. He doesn't smile often. It takes a special something to make his lips even crack upwards, and his eyes never betray his emotions. It isn't that he hates everyone, despite what others think, he just has a lot on his mind. His silence is mostly gained when he's near dragons he doesn't feel comfortable around, but rarely, he'll let someone in, and even give a little laugh sometimes. He's actually a very warm Tundra, despite how ice cold he is on the outside. He cares for all those he lives with, and sometimes does small acts of kindness without informing anyone that he was the one that did it. Some dragons call him lazy because he sleeps late, but that's because he was up late, slowly repaying the favor of saving his life.

When he's near those he trust, he's very warm and friendly. Smiling to show his white teeth that he takes great care in cleaning, laughing a bit, or even letting others cuddle up to him under his wings. Some dragons find his cold body amazing, wanting to bury themselves in the fur to try and cool themselves off during one of the warmer days, more humid days the Swamp sometimes experiences. Once in a while he'll even crack a joke his parents told him when he was little, but they never seem to make the other dragon laugh. Eh, Ice humor is different humor, as Haxonite always says. Not that he minds some dragons don't get it, after all, some of his jokes involve others dying in avalanches. Aha, the one about the Ridgeback always kills him.

Really, once someone gets past his hard shell, they find out he is a huge nerd. He likes to study and to learn, but he likes to do so in the comfort of his own hollowed out tree frozen on the inside for comfort. If anything, when someone is talking to him and he is staring out in space, it is highly likely he's daydreaming about something other than what he is doing at that moment. Not to say he doesn't like to listen to others, but sometimes they catch him at a very bad time. Especially when it is four in the morning and he's up because he lost track of time and is daydreaming about roasting duck over a fire back home in the snow. He is a warm dragon, and cares deeply for his new clan, but he's also longing for home, at every hour.

He was born in a blizzard, the snow and cold comfortable to him ever since he was born. Ice dragons, by nature, were so used to the cold that they didn't understand why other dragons shivered, or why some even died out here. Not that it mattered. Haxonite knew he would one day travel away from his clan, and into others. It was during his first trip away from home that he realized how ugly the world was. There were places of fire, other places with so much green growing up it was disgusting, places where there was no chance of snow, others where things were--dare he say it--pink. Ugh. He ignored this and kept traveling, to spread the word of the Icewarden, a protector who loves his children so much that if anyone tried to harm them, they would be struck down in a storm.

Yet one day, Haxonite was struck down. It was a horrible storm, one not of snow but of water, which was rare and terrifying. His fur coat, heavy to provide him protection, weighed him down and he soon crashed into dark trees, skidding along the cold ground before he landed in a swamp. His coat was so heavy from the rain it pulled him down out of the sky. The last thing he remembered was seeing blackness, that was it. Just darkness, and the feeling of not being able to breathe. To his surprise, he was alive, on the bank, panting and coughing up sludge and murky water Near him, a tiny pink thing sat on a rock, with several giant creatures towering over him. Two Guardians, Haxonite recognized. The Fae looked at him and then smiled, but it chilled him to the bone. Where in Icewarden's name was he?

The little one was called Spider. The one that got help. A Snapper, called Twinkle as Haxonite learned later, had saved him. She didn't seem too pleased, having to be so active for so long, but her kindness and Spider's urging had saved Haxonite from a grim fate. To this day, he stays with the clan, recovering from his near death experience, and spreading the word of the Icewarden to any that will listen, still loyal to his God. If anything, he acts as an ambassador from the Southern Icefields, but he owes the clan his life. All of them, thus, he stays. The day when the tides turn and a blizzard hits he will ensure the whole clan survives. He will teach them how, show them how to live during it, how to bury yourself in snow to keep warm, but until then, he does whatever work is asked... as long as he doesn't have to get near the water.

Haxonite keeps and maintains a small shrine to the Icewarden that he allows other dragons to visit and pay tribute at.

RELATIONSHIPS

2890744.png As Twinkle was the one to pull him from the swamp, Haxonite feels a great allegiance to her and is eternally grateful for her help. She often (and sometimes cruelly) employs him to do small favors for her (fetching her food, drink, bunny slippers) and he's more than happy to oblige.
