Falyse
Healer * Mage Sanguine Soul
Origins - “I’m so glad you could make it.” she could hear her mother say from outside their small lair. “Of course. She’s my sister after all.” a second voice answered, lower and deeper in tone. This had to be her brother. The one who had left before she was born. The stranger who had come to take her away. Because the others were afraid of her. Unwillingly, Falyse’s eyes began to fill with tears of anger. It wasn’t her fault. But the Clan had decided that she had to go. The sooner the better, they had told her parents. And to her horror, her parents had agreed to send her away without a fight. They told her it would be best for everyone. But she didn’t believe them. From the day she was born, her parents had been less fond of her than they were of her younger sister. Her sister was a joyful, lively little thing. Always happy, always bouncing around, climbing trees and trying to fly. In contrast, Falyse had been born frail. Running and playing around exhausted her and made her cough. She vividly remembered the first time when specks of blood had covered her white plumage and the ground after a violent coughing fit. She also remembered how her throat had tightened so much she was struggling to breath and how the panic began to rise in her that she might choke to death. And also that no one, not even her sister, had helped or comforted her. Everyone had just run away, getting as much distance between her and themselves as possible. After that day, the other hatchlings no longer asked her to play with them. When she came near them, they would throw stones at her and scream at her to get away. Her skin bore the bloody markings of their cruelty as she was neither fast nor agile enough to dodge the stones thrown at her. The other members of her Clan shunned her, too. Even her own parents grew distant after that day, watching her with anguish and fear. But she was only a little hatchling, what could she do to them that they were so afraid of her? Nobody would tell her anything. Not even the healer who had visited their Clan shortly after her first coughing fit. He had prodded and poked her, given her foul-tasting potions and made her run until she broke down. Later, she had overheard him talk to her parents. She didn’t have ”it”, whatever ”it” might be, but she was severely ill. And what do you do with your sick children? You send them away for the greater good. The tears were falling down on her paws now and she could barely prevent herself from sobbing. It was so unfair, she hadn’t chosen to be born ill. It wasn’t her fault that she was suffering. But she was to be sent away. Because everyone was afraid of her for reasons she didn’t understand. “She’s inside. Wait here, I’ll fetch her.” she could hear her mother say. Hastily, she wiped her eyes and got to her feet. Her mother stuck her head into her room and beckoned her to come out. As Falyse stepped outside, she saw her brother for the first time. His plumage was dark, not white as hers and he looked rather fierce. But as he saw her, he smiled warmly. “Hey there, little one. I’m your brother, Cathair. Pleased to meet you at last. I’ve heard so much about you and I’ve come to take you home.” As he bent down to hug her, Falyse threw her arms unhesitatingly around his neck. He laughed as he picked her up. Her brother was obviously not afraid of her. He did not shy away from her like all the others did. She hadn’t been hold close by anyone since that fateful day she first coughed up blood. Overwhelmed with emotion, she buried her face in his warm plumage. And he said he would take her home. Maybe having to leave was not that bad after all.
Personality - Falyse has been borne very frail and became severely ill shortly after birth. She is not suffering from the Nosos Virus as her parents feared, but from a lung disease which has damaged her lungs irreparably. Had she been treated earlier, the damage would have been less severe. The cruelty she had to endure in her early life has surprisingly not filled her with bitterness. It seems the love and security her brother and the other Clan members gave her after she arrived at the Forgotten Sanctuary, have healed her early childhood wounds of body and soul. Friends - Falyse and her brother Cathair share a close bond. When she was cast out by her old Clan, he raised her and tried to make up for the pain she had endured. Many Coatls suffering from the Nosos Virus are living at the Forgotten Sanctuary and it was here that she learned for the first time why her parents and all the others had been so afraid of her. But she does not shy away from the Afflicted and many of them are her friends now. She has an especially close friendship with Kieran, the blind herbologist, with whom she does research projects on healing herbs. Clan Role - Falyse is a skilled healer. It seems her own illness sparked her interest in the art of healing. Born with a Sanguine Soul, the magic is strong in her. She does not only rely on her magical powers, but is also very versed in traditional medicine. |
