"I've missed you so much." A familiar sound rose from the sky. To Katharine's surprise, she was brought back to the Wyrmwound, but not without its punishment. "You didn't think this would end yet, would it?" A large and towering figure appeared before her. Her visage was immediately recognizable to Katharine; it was the Plaguebringer. "N-no, I mean..." Katharine stumbled on her words, desperate to find something to please her mother. Unfortunately, she couldn't find any words to describe what she was feeling; it wasn't happiness, anger or relief. No, deep down inside she felt guilty. Guilty that she had spent so much time bringing her back to life. Guilty that she would have to come back to her Clan, to her Companion which she had abandoned so long ago. "I saved your life again, aren't you going to thank your mother?" The Plaguebringer hissed. Her eyes stared directly into Katharine's, making Katharine shiver with fear. "T-thank you. Really, I'm thankful." She murmured. It took every ounce of her energy to speak in front of her mother. She was exhausted, not only from the conversation, but also from her thoughts. She couldn't escape her terrifying flashbacks, no matter how much she tried to ignore them. The day that she plunged to the ground was going to be the last day of her life. "Good, I knew that you'd be thankful. I'm sure that you'll be thankful of my ... artistic expression, too." Her mother smiled. Katharine looked at her reflection in the scathing Wyrmwound pit, not even being able to recognize her face. "It's lovely, thank you." She lied. In truth, she loathed her new appearance. Every ounce of her beauty was tarnished by straps of black, linen wrap. Her wings, which were once dazzling with fiery streaks of sunlight, were a cold crimson red, enough to make her own children weep. "Good. Continue to do your work, my daughter." Before Katharine could move or reply, however, her body was sent through a sudden wave of shock. She woke up next morning in her bed, right next to her Plague Sprite. "What happened?" Katharine gazed at her living space, mildly confused from last night's trouble. "Even angels need angels, don't they?" Her Sprite soberly replied. |
