Cadwen came to the lair very early on -- in fact, he was probably the first dragon to come live alongside Rei and Brynyl right after the land was dug. The then-Guardian had already went through his time as a hatchling and was nearly matured when arriving, and while normally such a thing isn't a problem, it soon became clear to the progenitors of this clan that something terrible happened to the male during that time in his life.

Reizeku and his mate had assumed the young dragon wandered off from his original clan to simply start anew, overlooking the fact that the Sea of a Thousand Currents was a bit far from their Labyrinth. But within seconds they noticed his scales and spines were riddled with lesions and scars both old and new; in fact, the dragon himself was as shaky as trembling aspen. As much as Cadwen refused to return to the sea in which he was born, the Guardian retained the mysteriousness of a Water dragon and would not tell them what events transpired in his past. Instead, he chose to promise his life to the Gladekeeper and work under her watch alongside his new clanmates - aiding them in whatever way he could for as long as he lived. They were slightly startled at such strong promises and declarations at first sight, but accepted.

Cadwen has never once given the founders reason to doubt him.

Over time, the Guardian's fervor and desire to become one with Nature and serve the Gladekeeper had only grown - wrapping himself in rich, green fabric to both cover old scars and further announce his dedication being one example. He became well-known within the clan for helping others seek peace within themselves and for guiding dragons on how to please their God. He's perhaps the closest thing there is to an advisor - a title he took rather humbly.

Eventually there was a female who caught his eye. A Fae had wandered into the clan after starting a journey to travel the world, seeking knowledge to take back to her lair in Dragonhome to share with fellow dragons. The Viridian Labyrinth was her last stop. However, it didn't take Cadwen long to breach her supposed reason for travel and expose the Fae's disinterest in life altogether. Although she was but a passerby, Cadwen felt he could understand her suffering when looking upon his own past and recalling how lost he had been then. Unfortunately at the time the male had no way of conveying these thoughts to Hourglass, and it was with a heavy heart when he guided her to the edge of the territory to send her on her way.

Fate, however, is a funny thing. It seemed the Gladekeeper had been keeping an eye on Cadwen, for right before Hourglass turned to return to Dragonhome, two soft, pale green orbs of light rose up from the ground and presented themselves to the dragons. Luckily, this had happened before and Cadwen was able to explain. These were "miracles of the Gladekeeper", as the male called them, circles of light that contained life-changing abilities, their effects visible when looked at closely. The two leaned in and saw opaque silhouettes of the Pearlcatcher breed within the spheres, and before Hourglass could comprehend the situation, Cadwen proposed an alternative lifestyle to the Fae.

"Why not take this opportunity for a new beginning?" he'd said, casting a hopeful glance her way. Cadwen explained how this might be the one and only chance in life she'd have of being able to find and explore herself without the pressure of her old home on her shoulders, and most importantly, how he would undergo the massive transformation alongside her, not leaving her alone for a second and providing all the support she needed. Hourglass was shocked. It took her a few long minutes to reply, but much to Cadwen's delight, she accepted. They walked into the pulsating orbs of light, experiencing the intense, painful transformation together. The making of their pearl, a suddenly very precious item to them, was especially taxing: what normally took a Pearlcatcher their lifetime to achieve was being done within a matter of minutes, every memory the pair had being secreted from their maws and into a compact sphere. The last layer added was that of the transformation, but more importantly, the strong, unbreakable bond they'd formed within that span of time.

Hourglass and Cadwen are now a vital, recognizable part of the clan, Cadwen's previous duties being resumed once more while Hourglass began sharing her knowledge with whoever wanted to hear, the pair's talents working well alongside one another.
