Biography

Sent to his current clan as an act of goodwill between members of different Flights, Orchis is a Lightning dragon who was hatched and raised in a clan that possessed allegiance to the Stormcatcher. When he grew to adulthood, the lair of a clan belonging to Nature Flight became his home, and his new patron the Gladekeeper.

One of the first three dragons to exist in the entire clan, Orchis was the only dragon of an element other than Nature, in the beginning, and fought alongside the Guardian, Bracken, and the Fae, Iris, for the sake of obtaining valuable resources that the dragons needed to survive. Although no dragon was powerful in battle, initially, the trio quickly grew to be a formidable force, with Bracken and Orchis striking down enemies using their raw combined strength, and allowing Iris time to meditate and gather breath for spells. As his power grew, Orchis began developing his own magical talents, striking from a distance or at close-range with bolts of lightning, augmenting his already-sharp fangs and claws. This combination of magic and strength became a crucial aspect of fighting, as rogue Beastclan warriors began to regularly appear and threaten the dragons, some in possession of powerful Plague magic that ate at those attuned to Nature.

Because of the crucial role that Orchis plays in his clan, he is regarded as a leader among the dragons, and is also heralded as a prime example of the good that can come from the combined power and cooperation between multiple elements. This status, coming not only from his appearance early-on in the clan's history, but from his true, sincere devotion to his new family, is praised by all who know him, and continues to be an inspiration to all new dragons not born within the clan, or within Nature Flight, overall.

A typical Imperial, Orchis is calm, collected, and distant, for the most part quiet around other dragons, though he makes no effort to avoid social gatherings, and does not refrain from speaking when addressed. This reserved manner has often contributed to Orchis' seemingly-legendary reputation within his own clan, although he possesses personal concerns and worries like a normal dragon, and is merely careful with whom he chooses to discuss them. The distant demeanor that Orchis is often known for frequently vanishes when he is around the dragons that act as his comrades in battle, Bracken and Iris. Orchis himself will state that enduring hardships together strengthens the bonds between dragons, often giving this advice to younger members of the clan who are preparing to go on excursions for the first time.

A patient mentor, Orchis will calmly endure any emotional outbursts made by a frustrated apprentice, but as a teacher, is often cold, and seemingly uncaring. Dragons who return injured from fighting wild creatures or Beastclan attackers are unlikely to receive a warm, concerned welcome, Orchis often behaving as though they never left manner-wise. Though he clearly does not ignore their wounds, even going out of his way to help bandage them, the lack of worry he displays often serves to irritate most, especially when Orchis does show concern and worry for his own teammates, though only a slight break in his usual, collected self. Veteran warriors, however, would argue that Orchis is always watching out for the well-being of his clan, and that he is, like most Imperials, simply hard to read unless you have known him for a long time. Not everything that Orchis feels is permitted to show on his face.

Orchis has, as many of his pupils would begrudgingly admit, proven to be extremely effective in what he does. Graceful in battle, and strong, but also willing to act as an advisor, Orchis endures much of the clan's youth's rebellious behavior, from insults to even the occasional act of physical violence. He attempts to work with dragons of every species, even Pearlcatchers, though here, it is clear that like many of his kind, Orchis regards them with disgust, though this feeling is mutual. Even for his own patience, Orchis displays visible effort to give them the same, proper treatment that he administers to others, though he succeeds.

Similarly, like all of his kind, Orchis displays a far more aloof manner with other Imperials, even more distant than normal, though again, this feeling appears mutual. It does not seem like disgust or hatred, but a certain sort of reluctance to interact. Orchis never speaks with more than one or two other Imperials at a time, and these circles often disperse as soon as they form. Additionally, while normally allowing any group of dragons regardless of species or elemental heritage to form a party to go on excursions, Orchis has displayed open opposition for any group that forms with more than one Imperial within its ranks. Often telling any young Imperials that he will not allow them to work together in the same team, no such team with more than one Imperial has ever formed.

This is not entirely Orchis' fault, however; most of his kind, even hatchlings, seem to share the sentiment that Imperials should refrain from interaction, especially where fighting is concerned.
