LEADER OF THE REBELLION - Disowned Daughter F A M I L Y - Sapphire - Father Victoria - Sister N O N E F A M I L I A R - Nero she fiddles while rome burns A R T - Art Here T H E M E - Theme: Fire - Barnes Courtney O T H E R - Her crown is mostly made of marigolds and potash peach blossoms, but the real treasure are the few fire flowers sprinkled throughout her adornments. She uses these flame-inducing petals to channel her natural (and borrowed) power more effectively. Usually one petal is enough to set flames blazing up her horns, down her mane, and through her teeth and maw. Only once has Lilith consumed an entire fire flower. Some say that the skull at her side belongs to a long-dead emperor, and she uses its remains to call on it for council. The darker, more whispered rumors say that tthe skull is from her exalted sister. They whisper of how she stormed the hellheat center of the Great Furnace and ripped her head off on front of the Flamecaller and left alive. The darkest ones say that it used to be her own. ྿

"And my mother told me son let it be. Sold my soul to the calling; sold my soul to a sweet melody. Now I'm gone, now I'm gone, now I'm gone."

____Less bold than her sister, less sweet than her brother, and arguably less attractive than the both of them, Lilith curses the gembond that weighs down her wings and the mossy color that dulls them. Her mother's gentle reassurances are no help, nor the way her nestmates flaunt their appearances. Safe to say, Lilith is bitter. Very bitter. Is it better, she muses, to be a dragon with ugly wings or a dragon with no wings at all? She then kicks the intrusive thought out of her mind, because she is smarter, knows better than that. Suddenly, she's not so different from her sister than she thought. ____Lilith will make her own destiny.

____One of Marcella’s arrows buried itself in the blacksand beach right beside Lilith, pinning part of her silks to the ground. Lilith muttered a curse to the sharpshooter. She’s lucky these are already ripped to shreds. She pulled the arrow out of the ground and tossed carelessly to the side. Marcella could retrieve it herself if she was going to pull this sh-t again. Two more mirrors peeled off from the shadows and disappeared beyond the twisted rock formations Lilith waited behind. Listening intently for the clink of weapons or shift of multiple paws, she waited a few heartbeats. Hearing none, she stirred her wings and hopped up and over the towering obsidian spires. She landed with a spray of obsidian sand, sending an ashen cloud billowing out around her and breathing sparks into the face of a seemingly nonplussed coatl.____“I’ve heard you’ve been asking about exactly the wrong things, crown’s guard.” Lilith saw the coatl blink at that moniker. ____“Ya know, you can cut that out right now.” The coatl’s feathered crest flicked down slightly. “First of all, I know you’re dying for some help out here. There’s what, five of y’all?” That stung, but he was wrong. Water dragons could be stealthy when they wanted to, and even she didn’t know where Marcella was. But the b-stard continued. “Second, I know you let those royal kids in without a fuss.” ____“They attacked the Crown directly. Their mother disowned them herself, and favored that tiny flea of an heir instead. I don’t know where you come from, Silvertounge, but I’d say that’s a reasonable motive to turn treason and join a rebellion.” ____“Don’t call me Silvertounge.” The coatl’s tone was dismissive, but the low hum under him words increased nearly imperceptibly in pitch. ____Lilith bared her teeth in a sly grin. Someone was sensitive about their parentage. “Then why are you here, son-of-flames.” ____“Same reason as you, daughter-of flames,” he shot back. “Letting power stay in the hands of a barmy old halfwit who can’t decide what she wants to be half the time is a mistake that will land us all in the dead book. Now, I dunno about you, but I want to help them. It just turns out that helping them is against the law, and you’re the most lawless people I could easily find on short notice.” ____The coatl paused as if waiting for some sort of remark, but Lilith simply nodded. “Go on, bloodcrow.” It was beginning to be an exercise in what sort of names she could call him before he snapped. ____“Alright, that one’s fair, but I’m not ‘shamed of surviving.” ____Lilith, perhaps peeved at the coatl's acceptance of the insult, growled low in her throat. “I said go on.” She dropped her wings to her side and suddenly the coatl was made aware aware of a a massive skull, nearly the size of himself, casually tied to her side with resplendent silks and decorated with gold. Any smart dragon would have feared for their life. The coatl just gave a hum of appreciation and a respectful half-step back. ____“Oh, I thought that was just a howl.” ____A beat; Lilith did not speak. ____“So it’s true?” He didn't specify which of the rumors he was referring to. It probably didn't matter. ____“Yes.” ____A silence stretched across the blacksand beach to the choppy seas. ____“Now tell me, hummer, why I shouldn’t spill your blood on these sands and make another trophy.” ____“Well, I have art and lore parents-” ____“What?” ____“Nevermind. But I know you didn’t forget-” The coatl suddenly looked directly at Lilith, the fire in his eyes burning, dare she say, as bright as hers. “-I am the son of the most persuasive diplomat and the most powerful brawler on this side of Sornieth. And,” he paused here, “I have power they could not hope to gain.” ____Lilith turned sharply to face the coatl. For the first time since their conversation started, he'd gained her complete and undivided attention. To his credit, he didn't even flinch. "...Alright cutter, let's see it then." ____His grin bordered on feral as a crown of thorns unfurled atop his head. Lilith was already taking steps back as flame began to curl for his eyes, wings, claws, maw. ____For one of the first times in a long time, Lilith felt fear. “By the Caller’s Word… What fool are you, to make deals with devils?” she asked hoarsely. ____The coatl cackled delightedly. “I went and sought out the power you only dream of. I laughed in the face of gods and found the knowledge they tried to hide from us. I will melt the Ashen Wastelands into the ground and reshape it's fate to match my own.” The fire in his eyes dimmed a bit as he smiled then, a startlingly normal smile. ____“I mean, you can call me Kerosene, though.” |
