  Born aboard a pirate vessel, Cambrian has always been well-acquainted with the sea and the certain loneliness that comes with it. As a hatchling, he spent much of his time with his tail coiled around the highest points of the ship's topmast, watching the endless waters. Every dragon of the crew knew that the young dragon had inherited nearly all of his personality from his mother, a coatl, despite his fierce visage.

Cambrian's mother was a negotiator, and as such the young wildclaw had his fair share of opportunities to see dragons from other flights. His father also told stories of his youth as a wanderer, and Cambrian listened to them with some interest--but it was always the food that he kept coming back to.

Yes, Cambrian was the type of hatchling to beg his mother for the last piece of duneberry tart, or to carry around candied bamboo shoots until they were little but tasteless pulp. He reveled in the little presents his parents occasionally saved for him and his siblings. Living on a pirate ship, the hatchlings of the clan weren't typically raised with a formal education and thus most of them were illiterate, but Cambrian taught himself to read what he could from cookbooks. He spent more time with the galley master than any other dragon on the crew, little eyes watching the cook as he prepared meals for their shipmates.

Cambrian began his own ventures into cooking in secret--or what he thought was secret. The galley master watched over him from the shadows, muffling chuckles at the fumbling little dragon. Hunter's claws were not made for delicate pastry work, but with practice and determination Cambrian turned out several imitations of his favorite foreign dishes. At first he kept his prizes to himself, but after a while he began giving them out as rare treats. By the time he was an adult, Cambrian's closest friends received sweet gifts almost daily. The wildclaw worked in the galley always with a gentle smile for anyone who came to talk to him, taking his time to carefully craft each dish he made.

One day, when the ship was docked, Cambrian's mother approached him in the galley. After taking a plate of peach cobbler at her son's insistence, she proposed to him the idea of leaving the ship and seeking his life elsewhere in Sornieth. As much as she loved him, Disorder saw that her son would fare much better with a kitchen of his own and fresh ingredients to play with in his food. Cambrian mulled the idea over until the captain was about to make the call to leave port, before he finally packed his things and made his way out onto the port--not before leaving his best pieces of siltvine-spiced venison and great bowls of candied tulip petals for every member of his old family.
