He was a creature forged of the sparks of flame and slam of metal. He boasted no physical love of shattering iron to his will. Instead he possessed the ability to carve flame from the air, warping it around the tips of his claws and perfecting it into a near art. The sublime shudder of dancing flame upon his arms and wings at every successful summon of magic had become a rippling feeling he had learned to adore. Disaster had come far from such humble beginnings. Of a clan that had shown him the power of magic. He trained under a mentor that saw purpose beyond what even she could show him. But she had taken excellent care to introduce him to such power, opening a door to something far past what he had ever considered.

He followed in the confident footsteps of his siblings. He had outgrown the cloak of a mere boy learning tricks for show. He had torn the seams and burst open the paltry fabric and demanded more of himself, until he was leaving the comforting burrow of his home and venturing into the world unknown to him. He was greeted by a clan with the expanse of the world, seemingly endless and infinite. It was there he honed his ability as a mage, excelling past any and all challenge set before him. He sought the top of the clan, and as quickly as he had come, he had rose to sit upon the pedestal as head mage, looking upon the clan with a wisdom and experience few others could hope to match. Disaster was soon approached with offers of becoming a sage teacher. Young, capable mages who were eager to follow in the footsteps of the same mage who had transcended into a creature of limitless magic. And he had burned through each and every one of them within mere days. His sheer inability to mentor, coupled by his easy frustration and quick temper had led to every attempt to pass on his knowledge an eponymous challenge. The clan would send in a potential apprentice with all of the confidence of someone about to step into lava, grimacing as the apprentice was seen storming off in a fit of sobs barely a week later. |

| Disaster had felt as if he was failing his own mentor, with his ineptitude. For all of his ability, his power and scholarly wisdom, he simply could not make mentoring work for him. A fact that had tarnished his otherwise perfectionist nature. And so, watching as a new apprentice came to him with hopes and ambitions, fumbling at their robes as they sought out Disaster to ask him for his wisdom, Disaster had loathed himself to commit to trying. He had little else to do, and his miserable sulking was not demanding the answers he craved to see. He had never gotten anywhere by giving up. And though he may be a catastrophe with teaching, he felt as if with enough persistence, he could overcome it. |
