Biography
"Little one, I am about to tell you a very important secret." Gingerbread stopped fiddling with her pearl and tilted her head up to look into her mother's solemn eyes. Runest's ivory pearl, which she held at chin height, reflected upon her fuchsia gaze so that it looked almost ghostly. "It is a secret so important that you must tell no one." Gingerbread nodded earnestly, eager for the story to start. Runest cleared her throat authoritatively and then began.
"As you know, when I was young I wanted to be a fortune teller. I was interested in all things arcane - all of those destinies and fates we didn't know. And all the great sybils and fortune tellers and magicians, they all had one thing in common."
"What is it?!" Gingerbread asked eagerly.
"They were all Pearlcatchers." Runest replied mysteriously.
"And why does that matter?"
"Because we are a special type of dragon, my dear Gingerbread."
"But mother, all of the dragons think they are special. Each breed thinks they are better than the others." Gingerbread countered.
"It is because our pearls, my little one, they allow us to do things that the other dragons cannot even think of! So hold onto your pearl tight, my little Gingerbread, because it is not a play toy but a gift."
Gingerbread quickly agreed to take care of her pearl.
"What about my runes and my, my claws? Why am I so different? Sometimes I don't feel like a dragon, mother." Gingerbread made her eyes wide.
"Because you are special. A very special dragon. Your runes and your earthen talons and your sparkling wings and your special scales, they are all gifts! And your pearl as well. They are your gifts. So cherish them and hold onto them tight for one day they will be a great boon."
