Shimmer

He looked at his new offspring with disgust. Where was his beautiful gold hatchling? He looked around before pushing both away. "Robin, they look disgusting. I want that one, " he pointed at a small green hatchling with white wings, "to go to the Stormcatcher. Perhaps he will take that one."

"But can't we at least name them?" she pleaded, her voice desperate. Why did she want both of them? They were so... ugly. They looked too much like Robin and not enough like him.

"Fine. You can choose one hatchling to name," he said.
"Please, let me name them both."
He looked at Robin for a moment before giving a disgusted glance at his hatchlings. He pushed them both towards her.
"You know what? Name both of them, I'll take one to the Stormcatcher and you can raise the other one. Alone.

Her face twisted in a horrified expression. Why was she like this? Clearly they had two very ugly hatchlings and yet she doesn't realize it?

"Are you disowning your own children? Shimmer! I may not love you but... you can't just do this to me. H-how... How could you?"

All his love for her seemed to vanish. The result of their--no, her offspring clearly meant that they didn't belong to each other. "They do not belong to me. Not anymore."
She gave a sigh before giving names to both of them. "You shall be Thorns and you... You shall be Thistles."

And with that, he flew away.
