Biography
Hecate's Tale written by oilux |
Another drop silently fell. It landed with a small plop against the ground, collecting in a puddle masked by the darkness. It went completely unnoticed by the dragon as she paced around, gathering everything together for her spell. Her heart raced in her chest. Finally, finally she would get what she wanted. She would have the strongest wings, able to fly longer distances than any other dragon in Sorienth. Hecate gathered a couple more ingredients, mainly for show than they were for the actual spell. The moon was high in the sky, hopefully the Shadowbinder would bless her magic, and give her just what she had quested for. Breathing softly through her nose, she gathered her courage. Crystalhide edges and blackened legs May I be granted the beauty to change Give me strength, Give me beauty, Give me all of the things I ask of you For I will be your devoted servant And let me be better than any other dragon May my wings be strong May they cut through the sky Like painted glass And I will be all I ever wanted The drip of the water broke her silence, barely heard over her breathing. Hecate looked up, feeling disappointment radiate through her heart. Her wings felt no stronger, they were still the same dull red color. Frustration made her dig her claws into the dirt. But then her wings started to tingle, an almost painful feeling that spread from the tips to the base, causing Hecate to lean forward, pressing herself against the ground. She spread her wings out, trying to rid herself of the feeling, but didn’t dare let her wings fall to the ground. The thought of them touching something made her want to cringe. They were so heavy, and the tingling was now a burn, feeling like the thin membrane of her wings were being peeled apart, and where the pain was greatest it felt like some dragon was digging a glass knife into the joints, separating them from the sockets. She couldn’t help it, Hecate’s jaws pried open, letting out a roar. The pain slowly started to fade, leaving her panting on the ground. The thought of moving was out of the question, and she continued to pant as she laid there. Even as the pain started to fade, her wings felt heavy, a small pulse of pain went through her wings with each beat of her heart. It could have been hours, it could have been minutes, before Hecate finally felt like moving. Slowly, she released the dirt still clenched in her palms, heaving herself up from the ground. It felt like there was a weight on her back, like a Snapper had decided to take a nap on her back. Shutting her eyes, she tried to raise her wings, but they hardly moved. Hecate took a sharp breath, refusing to open her eyes. She tried again, and besides a small spark of pain, there was no feeling, or movement. “No.” Hecate reasoned with herself, her voice coming out a desperate croak. Her body was exhausted, which it hadn’t ever felt like before. She glanced behind her, but it was too dark for her to see. Scrambling forward as quickly as she could, her claws were still covered in dirt as she tried to grasp the flint and candle. After a few scrambled attempts, nearly clipping her claws, the candle lit up the cave. The way the cave lit up, it stole the air from her lungs. The cave walls had to have been replaced with glass, or something, because they were reflecting, showing more colors than ever should have been possible with the small amount of light coming from the candle. Purples, blues, greens, all of them hiding along rays of pinks and markings finer than the brightest of jewels. But where was it coming from? She tried to move, but her back ached, and a small spark of pain rose up again. Her heart clenched in dread, her stomach hollow. She slowly turned, trying to glimpse her wings behind her, normally high and proud behind her. Yet now they were lying hard against her back, the light of the candle reflecting across them as she moved it. When she shifted, her wings moved with her movement, but refused to rise, refused to spread out into all their glory. Hecate roared, a bellow of a sound that rattled the rocks of the cave around her. She kept trying to spread her wings out, like she could take off in flight right there in the cave, but they refused to move. Ignoring pain and exhaustion, she raced to the end of the cave, bursting into the bright light of the Sorienth. Her wings shone bright in the sun, almost exactly what she wanted. They were bright, and gorgeous, but they were heavy and useless. She slammed herself against the edge of the mountain, trying to break the case her wings were entrapped in. She could feel muscle and blood underneath the crystal, but the stone she crashed against crumbled before the crystal on her wings did. It was no use, she crashed against the wall again and again, but nothing happened. The crystal wings on her didn’t shatter, they didn’t move other than to look pretty against her form. She collapsed heavily against the ground. Her body was exhausted, even while her mind raced. With nothing more to do, she fell asleep on the ground, her heavy wings almost acting as a blanket over her. 1 of 2 active dragons with her colors!
