Biography

Stone Knife XXXXFíli
Meaning File or Filer.
Son of Dís
Heir of Erebor
Swordsman
Elk Pelt

Fíli awakes with a scream.

He is shaking, eyes wide and frightened, scrambling for something to hold. He has had the most terrible of dreams; blood and battle and orcs and death. His scream reverberates around the chamber he finds himself in, echoing back to him but not quite drowning out his heavy breathing and internal panic. It had all felt so real.

And where was he now? Glancing about gives him no answers. He is surrounded by stone. A large, cavernous space. Moist air and a heavy feeling. He feels... Low. Not the high altitude of the mountain. This is not Erebor. He does not recognize his location. Last he remembers was the battle before the gates... Raven Hill. And Kíli. Where is Kíli? He calls for his brother and his voice echos around him like before. He can hear the sound of many feet coming towards him, enemies he thinks, but Kíli doesn’t answer and Fíli’s panic only grows. Where is Kíli? Where is Thorin? His throat aches and he’s hit with an overwhelming sense of nausea.

A great door, so big he hadn’t even recognized it as such, opens along the wall across from him and Fíli finds himself struck dumb.

Dragons.

Dragons.

They burst into the room, filling it with leather and scale and feather and fur, and Fíli is up on his feet and stumbling before he can process it all, reaching for weapons he doesn’t have. They surround him, pressing in from all sides. He screams again; in fear, or at them, or for help, he doesn’t know. Some ingrained warrior instinct making him lunge at the nearest group despite his fear, as if he could force them back with just the air in his lungs.
They back off a bit. He immediately retreats and they grant him the space, but only just.

They watch him, as he does them, but they make no move to attack. Vaguely, he realizes the look on their faces is more of concern than anything else, and dimly he wonders how a dragon can have a facial expression (or rather, how he can read it). But fear has him gripped in ways it never has before and he pushes all those thoughts aside. He is alone, unarmed and surrounded by Dragons. The largest is smaller than Smaug, but still. Dragons.

After an infinite moment, one dragon steps forward. The others part around it and Fíli thinks it must be important somehow. It is a large beast, one of the largest in the group. A long, serpentine body of faceted grey and leathery wings of a soft yellow. Antlers like a deer and a beard like a Dwarf, Fíli thinks. It might be amusing in any other situation.

The dragon speaks. It is a deep rumble, commanding but not over-loud, and Fíli fights to focus on the words. Unfortunately, his focus is not strong enough to counter the sound of his heart pounding in his chest, the pulse of blood coursing through his veins, and the terror clawing around inside his mind. The dragon has to repeat itself.

“How have you come to this place?”

“I-I... don’t know.”

“Hn. Typical Tundra answer if I’ve ever heard one.” The dragon seemed somewhat amused. “Your name.” It was a statement, but somehow Fíli knew he was meant to answer. Legend says you’re not supposed to give your name to a dragon, as it then holds a power over you. It was said that dragons are manipulative and cunning, and can convince even the most stubborn to give up their names... But it would seem that all this one had to do was ask. Fíli’s mind was not in the right place; he answered immediately.

Appearance:

Fíli is short and stocky for a Tundra, with a thick golden mane and a mustache that he keeps braided.

Family:

Kili (brother), Thorin (uncle)

Friends:

Bilbo, Bofur, Gandalf. (the rest of The Company to arrive later.)

“Fíli. Son of Dís. At your service.” The introduction was second nature and he immediately felt a fool for it. At your service, indeed. What service would a dragon need of a dwarf? The dragons only stared at him oddly for a moment.

“And do you recognize any of us as friend?” The beast questioned. Fíli thought it an odd question, and one he should probably lie to, at that. Being counted as a friend would surely be safer than not, but Thorin had raised him better than to lie.

“No.” Damn it. Now he’s dragon food for sure.

“Hn. Perhaps one of the others will know you.” Others? Great, he’s to be judged worthy by a nonexistent friendship with a dragon.

“I don’t know any dragons!” He snapped, which earned him a few odd looks. Another dragon came forward.

“Are you alone then, young one?” A softer voice, still deep but somehow feminine, asked. It seemed supremely upset by the notion.

“No. I’m looking for my brother and uncle. And The Company.” He stated firmly. Quiet murmurs erupted throughout the rest of the dragons, but Fíli couldn’t follow any of it.

“His troupe.” The first dragon stated, silencing the others with an air of knowing everything about everything. It irritated Fíli but he wasn’t sure why. He was confused. He was pretty sure he should be dead by now. Pretty sure he had died just a short time ago, but was actively repressing those memories at the moment.
The lead dragon appeared about to say something else, before suddenly they were all looking up at the ceiling; concern and confusion and even some fear on their faces. Fíli didn't understand why, but he looked up too.
A single drop of water fell from the ceiling and tumbled through the air, glittering like the Arkenstone. It seemed to fall so much slower then a drop of water should, and when it collided with the floor it did so with far more force then it's meager size and speed would suggest.

The solid stone rippled like a puddle on a rainy day, and a sound like crystal bells hung in the air. The ringing grew ever thicker, heavier, until it was all that could be heard or felt and Fíli had to cover his ears when it grew too loud. His gaze swung around the room, searching for the source, and even the dragons seemed confused.

The air in the room seemed to pop like a bubble, and all was silent for a breath.

Then, the loud thud of a heavy object hitting the floor.

A gasp, a groan, and a cry followed. A cry he knew well.

“Kíli!”
