Salem

Born into a clan of Arcanist witches, Salem demonstrated a keen intellect and knack for magic at a young age. But as she grew older, her powers became uncontrollable, to the point where a magic trick involving a shower of sparks wrought fire and ash all across the land. Horrified and fearful for her daughter’s life, Salem’s mother, the Witch Queen, wiped her own child’s memory, in the hopes that it would keep her safe. She left the young Salem with a nomadic clan of dragons sworn to protect magic, knowing that Salem would be well supervised and taken care of with them. It was the hardest thing the Queen ever did, and it nearly broke her; the one thing keeping her going was the thought that her little Salem was safe somewhere. But all was not good in Salem’s life; the nomadic clan was struck down by a bloodthirsty, vicious clan of Nocturnes. Salem was the only survivor, having cast an invisibility spell just before the attack. She escaped with her life and little else, running far away with nowhere to go and no one to turn to. It was then that she found Varden, a heroic Imperial with a small, but sturdy clan of lost dragons with nowhere else to turn to. They welcomed Salem with open arms, helping to guide her in her pursuit of magic and providing support when she faltered or when accidents happened. Eventually, Salem grew and matured into a fine young mage, capable of great magic and mastering every sort of potion and incantation known to dragons. Despite her fears of corruption or harming another, Salem took an apprentice, Cleo, vowing to train her in the mystic arts and teach her all that she knew. And though Salem’s power is great, she promises to only use it for the betterment of her clan and the maintaining of the peace, eternally grateful to Varden and the clan that protected her and took her in when no one else would.
