Biography
Sillywinter wrote:
“You are just… so… aggravating.” His yellow eyes burned when he hissed those words. Casalain wouldn’t forget that look, a look of pure exasperation and anger. He was glad the tattered hood of his guise hid the flinch that flickered briefly across his features. “I cannot understand you! I don’t know how you tick, what has made you this way… You’re just a blank slate and you spare no affection for me in return.” Rolande pulled back, expression grim. “It’s as if this disease has completely wiped away whoever you were before. There’s no one left in this-” He gestured to the larger Imperial with one paw. “-husk.”
“Because there isn’t.” Casalain replied simply, voice devoid of emotion. But deep down, that little part of him that still struggles to survive and fight the alien life that attempts to make his body its host, he felt it wither away in pain, shrivel up, and die. All because of a few words spoken by someone he cares about.
Who clearly no longer cared for him.
“I knew you would say that. I’m done. I’m done with you and your little games. You should leave now. Goodbye Casalain.”
Something indescribable grew hollow within the black Imperial’s chest as he watched Rolande walk away and disappear into the tree line. A soft breeze whispered by, the green grass of the meadow rippling like the surface of water. He stood there, trying to understand what was happening, why this heavy feeling in his chest was growing bigger. It hurt, a lot, and it looked like it was going to stay for a long time. He suddenly missed Myco. He wished he was here. He would have known what to say to make him feel better, but Myco was somewhere else, traveling with Clan Volfein.
And he was here, alone.
A noise bubbled in his throat, something of a wail, and Casalain sunk to the ground. He rested his heavy head on his paws and watched the grass for only a moment, before he closed his eyes and drifted off into troubled sleep.
When he awoke, it was night. His stomach was sick with hunger, but the large drake refused to move and instead forced himself to slip back into sleep. He convinced his body to slow, to hibernate and conserve the little energy that remained. His illness seemed all to happy to comply, eagerly sapping him of any ideas of moving and he felt it begin to slowly eat away at him.
It was then he lost track of time. There were times where he was cold, or scorching hot, and sometimes he would open his eyes to see snow or withered grass. His body felt heavier by the day, and Casalain was vaguely aware of the plant growth that was clinging to him. Why couldn’t he die? He hasn’t eaten and yet, he was still here, alive and breathing.
With many painful memories and feelings.
When he opened his eyes again, he could hear someone walking through the fresh spring meadow. There was a noise and Casalain assumed it was from the creature. Were they already this close to him? He would open his eyes, but the Imperial figured he wouldn’t be able to see them anyways.
“Casalain? H-How?”
Rolande… A shiver crawled down his spine and the dark drake couldn’t understand if it was a feeling of delight from hearing that voice again. “I’m tired…” He whispered. His words didn’t sound like much really, his throat hoarse from being unused, tongue fat and awkward in his mouth.
“How long…?”
Casalain slowly opened his eyes, blinking. The sun was out again and the grass that swayed before him shimmered beautifully. Just like his mane when it catches the light… “I don’t know.” He managed, letting out a long sigh. “Probably because… I’m a husk.” His own words surprised him. Where had they come from? And he didn’t mean to sound so bitter.
“Casalain… I… Did I do this to you?”
“I did this to myself.”
Silence passed between them, but he could hear Rolande draw closer, and soon enough Casalain could see him. See those beautiful scales and stunning eyes, that relaxed posture, now rigid, and handsome build. A smile flitted across his lips and he felt tears gather. “I missed you.” He said honestly. It felt so right, even when everything else within him was screaming that it was wrong. “I didn’t know what to do when you left, so I just slept.” A cough clawed up his throat, wracking his weak body and rattling his lungs. Concern crossed Rolande’s face. “Am I dying?” It was a question more for himself than for the other.
The beautiful Imperial before him rushed forwards. He reached down with both paws, gently prying Casalain’s face away from the earth. Rolande sat before him, and gently, lay the larger dragon’s head upon his lap. He began to run his claws through his black mane, pushing his hood away. The world was a bit brighter now. Casalain sighed softly, closing his eyes.
“If I am dying, then I would like to die like this, in the arms of the one I love."
