TAROU
a gentle bookworm

Born with a condition that left him with slight mobility complications and lower-than-average energy levels, as a kid Tarou found himself doing something that was virtually unheard of by his traditional Snapper family--he slept. This habit of sleeping was unfamiliar to the constantly traveling Snappers, and as a result Tarou often woke to find they'd left him far behind and would frequently have to spend days catching up...but eventually there came a day where his body just wouldn't cooperate and he just couldn't close the distance. There was a lot of time spent alone and lost after that, reading and rereading the books he had on him as a replacement for company, and wandering on his own until he happened to meet the equally lost Spiral, Youko. They became fast friends and eventually during their travels bonded to the point of viewing one another as brother and sister.

Upon entering The Windswept Plateau they met Kiva, a guardian who kept them safe and taught them how to defend themselves should she not be around to defend them. Though fighting wasn't particularly Tarou's interest, he began writing about their exploits and travels overall, and the fights did make things a bit more interesting to write about. With his mobility issues, he couldn't always participate in the fights as much as the other two, but he was able recall things written in the books of the doctors who had tried to mend his condition and began to practice healing magics as a way to support his allies.

Eventually in their travels they found Clan Guidance and were immediately taken in.

Tarou was given a job in record keeping, working under Cadet--an amazing memory for information helps him remember even the most convoluted chunks of information and has made him highly efficient at recounting everything he's told throughout the day about happenings around the lair. In his spare time, he joins Youko in her personal scouting missions or reads as often as possible. Or both. For a time, he followed Kiva to the Shifting Expanse for moral support when Kiva decided to pursue further combat training, but in his support he happened to train alongside his friend and has since become a rather adept healer and competent strategist.

Tarou is a very warm and gentle soul, and he is always more than happy to listen to others tell him their tales even when no one else will listen to them. When prompted to speak himself he can get a bit shy and stumble over his words--he doesn't talk very often but when he does he usually has something important to say. Others are usually fine with giving him a moment to get his words together, but if they interrupt or speak over him Youko is always quick to call them on it and give the floor back to Tarou.

His bandanna is a cherished childhood gift from Youko.
