 Long ago, Togetson ran away from home, in part because his parents clearly didn't respect him.

His given name was Gumdrop. Disgraceful.

There was also the whole bit with them not honoring his pronouns - he had to admit that did sting some, and certainly didn't help relations. Or the part where they intended to marry him off to the most eligible bachelor as social leverage for their ailing clan. Togetson appreciates a handsome dragon as much as anyone else, but unless they can perform the quadratic formula in their head, or at least show some glimmer of intelligence, he's not bloody interested. He'd rather appreciate from afar, thank you very much. (Sadly, the dragons his parents wanted their 'daughter' to marry never even met this simple requirement.)

No, frankly, life with his family was all just a massive waste of time. They may have been content to dither their lives away, but Togetson had better things to do with his. Much more meaningful things.

He was going to change the world.

So he left without saying good bye and ventured off on his own, enrolling in first one prestigious university, and then another. From the Light dragons of the Sunbean Ruins he learned philosophy and law, and from the Starfall Isles, magic. Pure, raw, dangerous magic, archaic forces his parents would never have approved of their precious little Gumdrop harnessing.

For the first time in his life, he felt alive.
