Gender: Male
Namesake: A greenish, bluish type of gemstone
Mate: Liani
Personality: As a guard, Chrysoprase is stoic and unfeeling while on duty-- his job requires him to. However, as a head guard, he doesn't always have to be on duty, as he can simply order someone else to take his place as long as he directs them well and is a good guard while on duty. When off duty (which is a surprisingly common occurrence), Chrysoprase is a humorous and fun character with a wide charisma. He is often found telling stories to hatchlings or celebrating some event or the other. Nevertheless, when need be, he becomes stolid and unmoving, being a great warrior. His claws are never tarnished when they are needed. Together with his mate, Liani, he is formidable as an enemy.
Likes: Optimism, brawling, eating in general
Dislikes: Clan dispute, tedious work
Skills: Battle, alertness, sharp senses, easygoing nature
Flaws: Slacks off a lot, sometimes doesn't focus anough

"It is true that brute strength is unfair when abused. Who cares? It's only if it's misused!"

Chrysoprase was found venturing the Everbloom Gardens by Liani, who accidentally shot him with an arrow before realizing he was not prey but a dragon. She immediately saw the enourmous scar, still bleeding a little, running down his tail. Liani brought him back to the clan, where he was healed by her father, Kiva. After regaining consciousness, Chrysoprase finally blinked his fiery eyes open and explained himself. He was a dragon from a clan in the Ashfall Wastes. But when he was born, he was born very, very prematurely. He was small and weak, and the clan did everything to save him. It worked, but not without its consequences. He grew up, as normal. But he was growing slowly; so slowly, in fact, it seemed he was not growing at all. He was smaller than all the other dragons. The doctors of his previous clan diagnosed that the herbs and medicinal foods everyone had given him had somehow stunted his growth and that he would be like that for his entire life. After this announcement, everyone who had helped and cared for him during his childhood suddenly shunned him and turned him away. He got only leftovers for food, not helping his disabled growth, and even then was scolded every meal for being a burden to the clan's hoard. He was constantly scratched by passerby, even hatchlings who had been encouraged by their parents. Even worse, because of the healing herbs and everything the clan did for him when he was younger, the clan leader had told him sternly, he would have to work it off now. And so it was. Every day he would be given the hardest jobs, the hardest tasks, some of them meaningless. And when he grew too tired to complete them, he was scratched again and again along the same wound, the scar on his tail. But he kept working. He knew one day he would come through. But that one day came at an unfortunate consequence. That was the day the clan leader snapped. Every dragon in the clan cornered him against a lava fall. But Chrysoprase refused to tell them what happened next, only that what they did ended in him running away from the clan, pursued by his former clanmates, and coming to the Echosong. Shortly afterwards, a Bramble Guardian stuck to his side and would not leave, clinging onto his tail like it was his life. Chrysoprase named him Prase, the name of a lesser version of the gemstone he was named after. He now happily lives here, with Liani as his faithful but headstrong mate, defending the clan against intruders while Prase gallantly defends against pests.

Another day passed, another night to come. Chrysoprase, exhausted like every night, stumbled into his cold lair after a day of fetching heavy lava and obsidian for forgers, carrying much of it at a time and being scratched if he was late. He curled around the empty stone beneath him. Sleep offered comfort and comfort was what he never had.
When he opened his orange eyes again, he was looking into the eyes of his cold, unfeeling clan leader. There was one emotion in them: anger.
"Yes?" Chrysoprase was on his feet in a second, fully awake and ready for what he needed. The leader looked him over roughly, then beckoned with his tail.
"Come with me," The leader called, and walked steadily out of the cave. Chrysoprase stood for a moment, confused, but obeyed and followed him.
They walked across obsidian plains and next to lava vents until they reached a flat outcropping of rock overviewing a steaming lava pool. Over the journey, many other dragons from his clan had arrived as well, forming a half-circle around him and herding him in the direction they wanted. Now Chrysoprase was surrounded, cornered against the lava. He pulled his wings in as the clan leader spoke.
"Tonight you will have a... test. One that may free you from your service if you pass." His eyes explained that he fully expected him to fail. Chrysoprase dreaded what came next, but it continued against his wishes. Two dragons emerged from the crowd, and he was surprised to see that they were his parents. But his surprise soon died. They had shunned him just as, if not more than, everyone else did. He was not hurt that his own parents would do such a thing against him. He started, however, when he saw what they were holding and the line of pairs of dragons behind him. Large, flat, and extremely heavy blocks of solid obsidian.
"You will hold these, and we will stack them upon your back." The leader's mouth spread into a twisted smile. "And you will do this at the edge of the outcropping."
With no time to waste, Chrysoprase held the first rock without trouble. It wasn't too much for him at all. But when the second came, he started to feel strained. Then the third. Obsidian stacked up on his back until his muscles screamed with effort. He never gave up. And he succeeded. At the edge of the lava, he trembled as the crowd of dragons counted to ten slowly. Each second felt like an hour. But at last the ten sounded, and he dumped the rocks down, collapsing inwards from exhaustion. His only thought was that it was all his fault, the clan being so upset. But then something inside him stirred, and realized that No was true. Yes was false, and No was the real truth. His bonds broke. The guilt broke. He exploded into the sky with a blast of fire along with the clan leader's shrieks to stop him, stop Chrysoprase, likely the first time he had used the word to mean himself, the dragon his leader so hated. But Chrysoprase laughed. Not maniacally, but joyfully-- he was free. Finally free from the clan, free from the guilt, because he knew it wasn't his fault. It never had been.
And he flew for a day straight until landing among endless green. An arrow suddenly sprouted from his side as he drenched his throat in water. The last thing he saw before losing consciousness was a concerned guardian's face. And before he passed out, three things happened.
1. He thought the guardian was beautiful.
2. He felt the arrow press into his side.
And three...
He whispered, "Free." For he knew that whomever discovered him this time would never force him into submission again. His years were spent building muscle, and now he was strong. Little did he know the glorious life ahead of him would be inspiring and enjoyable. As he pondered his future in that split second, he did something worthwhile to himself.
He smiled.
