Aekeanos is the youngest child of two travellers. His father, Maelstrom, grew up in Clan Pavois, adopted by the warrior Eklaan, and left to travel Sorienth. His mother, Equinox, is a warrior of the allied Dunhall clan, who came to Clan Pavois to help fight for a time. Maelstrom returned for a visit to his home while Equinox was here. This is when Aekeanos and his brother, Eris, and his sister, Gale, were born.

Gale left to serve the Shadowbinder from a young age, and Aekeanos was very sad to see her go, but his father and brother consoled him.

Soon, however, Maelstrom left again, to continue his travels (along with a hatchling named Petal who wanted to travel), leaving his sons behind. Aekeanos was afraid then, knowing that soon his mother would return to her home clan, and fearing that she would not take him with her.

Equinox promised Aekeanos she would take him, and that she would make sure he was never alone. This soothed his fears for a few days. Then the news came.

After visiting a few clans, Maelstrom and Petal had been betrayed by a Nature clan and had gone missing in the Viridian Labyrinth, and were presumed dead. Aekeanos was devastated. He hasn't spoken to anyone but his grandfather Eklaan since then, and even to him he has said very little. Equinox is very worried about her son, and hopes that someday Maelstrom and Petal will be found.*
